- WILLIAM BAIN DILLY January 27, 1924 - May 9, 2014 Bill died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Ayr, Ontario. Predeceased by his wife Maxine (nee Grimmer) to whom he was married for 51 years, he is survived by his close friend and sister Mary McColm and his sisters-in-law, Ellen Dilly and Ruth Stager. Father of Michael (Mindy Baker), Nancy (Bill Anderson), Chris and Mary-Elizabeth; grandfather of Michael (Virginia), Billy (Joelle), Jonathan, Megan (Jules Langdon), Eli, William and Catherine and great-grandfather of Orrin and Ayanna. Predeceased by his siblings John, Gilbert, Marion McNamara, Catherine Ogilvy and Dorthea Birss. Bill was born in Georgetown, Ontario and attended public and high school in Cambridge before joining the RCAF where he served as a navigator in Europe during World War II. After the war, Bill had a successful career in marine engineering and real estate development. Throughout his life, living and working in southwestern Ontario, Bill most enjoyed his time in Muskoka, Ayr and his visits to Florida and to Vermont. He was particularly proud of the family cottage in Muskoka that he built himself with help, from time to time, from various family members. An avid golfer at Weston Golf and Country Club, Bill enjoyed many trips with his golf buddies to the US and Scotland. He was unbelievably skilled at restoring antique furniture and refinished his last piece in this his 91st year. Bill will be buried in Ayr, Ontario following a private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Covenant House, 20 Gerrard St. East, Toronto, ON M5B 2P3 would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences or donations may be arranged through www.wmkippfuneralhome.com or by contacting Wm. Kipp, 519-632-8228.
