    • Last Respects to Local Merchant,
Many Attend Funeral This Morning of the Late George Herman

Citizens of all walks of life this morning paid their final respects to the late George J. Herman, well known Preston citizen and merchant who suddenly passed away at midnight Wednesday following a week's illness. The deceased, whose sudden passing came as a distinct shock to the district, was a man who took a keen delight in life, his pleasing personality winning him a large circle of friends, not only in business but also in the private life of the community. Today Preston paid final tribute to this man who had by his genial nature gained so many friends and by sheer industry worked his way to an enviable business position in the municipality. Representatives of the Galt council of the Knights of Columbus, and Preston Holy Name society of which organizations the deceased was a member, along with immediate friends, acted as flower-bearers and formed a guard of honor through which the remains passed at the home, church and cemetery. St. Clement's R.C. church was filled for the impressive last ceremonies conducted by Rev. P. J. Meyer. The many beautiful floral tributes and mass cards were mute evidence of the esteem and respect gained by the deceased throughout the district. The late Mr. Herman, who was in his 48th year, was married on October 20, 1915 in St. Mary's church, Winnipeg, to Rose Yates, daughter of Mrs. C. H. Yates and the late Mr. Yates of Preston. Among the friends and relatives of the deceased present from out of town centres were: Mrs. R. E. O'Connor, Montreal; Mrs. William Herman and son John of Maywood, Illinois; Mrs. And Mrs. Meihm, London; Mr. and Mrs. L. Mahler and Mrs. Charles Herman of St. George; Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hauck, Mrs. H. O. Sullivan and Miss Helen Power of Guelph; G. J. Yates of Detroit; Mrs. Walter Cross, Galt; Mrs. William Power and son Jack of Elora; Mr. and Mrs. T. Yates of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Albert and Miss Ruby Yates of Dunnville. The pall-bearers, all immediate friends of the deceased, were E. Mossack, W. Halberstadt, M. H. Mullin, F. Deschene and F. Paetz ofPreston and P. Hauck of Guelph.
