      Suddenly, in his 91st year, on his way to his beloved cottage, on Friday, June 25, 2010.

      Survived by son, Peter, of Waterloo; daughter, Mary (Michael) Casey of Kitchener; and grandchildren, Patrick, Andrea, and David. Dear brother of Elizabeth Shelton (the late Charlie) of Ottawa and Peggy Kreiner (the late Hal) of Timmins; brother-in-law of Barbara Kester, the late Stewart Jones, the late Allen H. (Bud) Jones and his surviving wife Maggie Jones. Remembered by his nieces and nephews.

      Predeceased by dear wife Katherine (Kay), née Jones, (1990); his parents, Dr. P. Douglas Spohn and Maud, née Potvin; and sister, Mary Cunningham (1997).

      After graduating from Waterloo College, Jim enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces, achieving the rank of captain in the Highland Light Infantry. He served in France, Holland, and Germany, where he was severely wounded during the Second World War. Jim graduated in medicine from University of Toronto in 1950 and practiced general medicine in Kitchener for thirty-three years, retiring in 1985. He was the team doctor for the Canadian Olympic hockey team in Cortina, Italy in 1956 and in Squaw Valley, California in 1960. Longtime member of Westmount Golf and Country Club and the KW Granite Club. Jim enjoyed spending his summers at his cottage in Penetanguishene. Also sadly missed by his canine pal, Penny.

      Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of Jim during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Monday, June 28, from 7-9 p.m., and on Tuesday, June 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Church of the Holy Saviour, 33 Allen St. E., Waterloo on Wednesday, June 30 2010 at 1: 00 p.m. with The Venerable Peter T. Townshend officiating. Cremation will follow with interment at St. James On-the-Line Anglican Cemetery in Penetanguishene.
