- B. W. Ziemann, Preston, Dies At Age of 83
PRESTON, June 17— Respected citizen and former business man of Preston, Bernard William Ziemann, died at 11 o'clock last night at the home of his granddaughter, John Moores, Concession Road, Preston, at the age of 83 years. Mr. Zieman, known affectionately to many as "Barney" had been ailing for several months and seriously ill for three weeks. His activity in various phases of community life won him a host of friends. He was also active in business affairs and was an enthusiastic lodge worker and churchman.
SERVED ON COUNCIL
Mr Ziemann. who at one time acted as magistrate of Preston, had the distinction of having been a justice of peace under five sovereigns. A member of town council for some years, he was active on other civic bodies at various times, being an enthusiastic member of the Board of Trade and secretary for many years, while he was chairman of the relief board during depression years. He was established in business in Preston for many years as a tailor and in gents' furnishings, retiring in 1923. He was president of the Dominion and provincial branches of the Retail Merchants Association of Canada.
FUNERAL SATURDAY
He was a member of James Baptist Church, Hamilton. He was married in 1888 to Margaret Wilson Patton who predeceased him in 1928. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. A. P. Sharpe, of Toronto; two sons, Rev. P. P. W. Ziemann, of Hamilton, and K. W. Ziemann of Chippawa; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body is resting at the Stager-Pass Ltd., Funeral Home, Preston, where service will take place Saturday at 3: 30. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.
