  August F. Burks Preston lost one of her oldest residents on Saturday afternoon in the death of August F. Burke, which occurred at his late residence, 1193 Queen Street, at 1.30 o'clock. Mr. Burke, who was in his 80th year, was a familiar figure around town and had gained not a little reputation as an able fiddler of old time tunes. In fiddling contests held during the past few years in town, none could out-fiddle Mr. Burke. Death resulted from intestinal flu, following an illness of about three weeks duration. Mr. Burke was born in Preston, a son of the late Elisabeth and Frederick John Burke and lived his entire life here. In occupation he was a contractor, but retired some years ago. He took a keen interest in political affair's and was a supporter of the Conservative government. He was a member of St. Paul's United church and of the Chosen Friends Lodge. Deceased was predeceased by his wife seven years ago and surviving are four children: Fred A. Burke of Windsor, Mrs. Amelia Legg of Ottawa, Mrs. Elizabeth Gimble and Mr. Gus Burke of Preston. The funeral services were held this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock from his late residence to the Preston Cemetery, with Rev. R. M. Geiger of the United church in charge.
