- DAHLKE, Alfons (1913-2008) - Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at K.W. Health Centre of Grand River Hospital in his 95th year. Born in Poland on February 7, 1913, Alf came to Canada in 1947 as a Polish War Veteran through a farm placement program. In 1948 he started working for and living with Abner B. and Mildred Martin at their farm near Winterbourne. For over 55 years, he worked and shared special occasions with four generations of the Martin family. Recently, he lived at Countryside Retirement Residence near Bloomingdale. Alf was a member of Branch 412 of the Polish Legion, Kitchener. He became a proud Canadian and a loyal Toronto Maple Leaf fan. He is survived by several family members in Poland and is remembered by the Ejsymont family in Kitchener. Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will take place at the Dreisinger Funeral Home , Elmira this afternoon (Thursday) from 2-4 p.m. only. A memorial mass for family and friends will be held at St. Boniface RC Church, Maryhill on Friday, January 18, 2008 at 10 a.m. with Father Ron Voisin officiating, followed by interment of cremated remains in St. Boniface RC Cemetery, Maryhill. A reception to celebrate Alf's love of working on the land and with livestock will follow at Maryhill Heritage Community Centre. Parish prayers will be offered at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon (today) at 2 p.m. In his memory, donations to St. Boniface RC Church, Maryhill or Grand River Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy
