- Ex-Baker, R. A. Dietrich Dies at 70
A former Kitchener baker and alderman, Robert A. Dietrich, died today at his home 136 Young St. He was 70.
Mr. Dietrich carried the family business, Dietrich's Bakery, until 1948, when he sold it and retired.
He served on city council during the 1930s, was a former chairman of the Separate School Board, and pioneered development of the Waterloo-Wellington Airport Commission.
A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Dietrich, he was born in Baden and lived in Kitchener all his life.
He was a member of St. Mary's RC Church, the Holy Name Society and of the Noeturnal Adoration Society, which will conduct, its prayers with the rosary at 8 p.m. Sunday. He served in the 118th Battalion and the Western Ontario Regiment during the First World War, and was a member of Kitchener branch Canadian Legion.
Mr. Dietrich was also an ardent fisherman and hunter.
Surviving are his wife, the former Rita Rafferty, whom be married in Waterloo in 1918: two sons, Thomas and Robert of Waterloo: a daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Mary) Lapres of Montreal; three sisters, Mrs. Ving (Collette) Fuller of Sherman Oaks, Cal., Alma and Clara of Kitchener and 11 grandchildren One sister, Florence, pre-deceased him.
The body is at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m., Sunday.
Prayers will be offered at 9:30 am.. Monday, followed by removal to St. Mary's RC Church for requiem high mass at 10 o'clock. Burial will be at St. Agatha.
