    • MITCHELL, Shirley Elizabeth (nee Harlock)

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Elizabeth Mitchell (nee Harlock), a lifelong resident of Preston. Mom passed away, April 15th at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. Although we miss her and mourn her passing we can only be happy that she is once again with the love of her life - Dad (Jesse Ernest Mitchell 2003). Mom was born July 23, 1924 in the upper level of the Gmelin Saddlery Shop on Fountain Street, in Preston to Vernon and Eloydia Harlock (nee Gmelin). She is predeceased by her parents and her only brother, Ross Harlock (2009). She is also predeceased by her step-father, William Danbury. Left to cherish many fond memories are sons; John (Jan), Wayne (Sandra), and Larry (Kim). Mom took great pleasure in her grandchildren, Alex (Gwynne), Chris, Nicole, and Justin and her great-grandchildren, Rowan and Isla. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce Harlock. Mom served as a wireless operator, in the air force during WWII and was stationed in Hagersville, Ontario. She worked at Dominion Woolens and McCaskey's and later became the medical secretary, at the Preston Medical Centre, where she worked for over 20 years. Being a people person, this was the perfect job for Mom and she enjoyed all the interaction with doctors, patients and everyone she came in contact with. But, to her the most important job was wife, mother and grandmother. These were acts of love. Mom loved to knit, smock, do word puzzles and bake. Her peanut butter balls and maple tarts, were a must at family and church functions. Mom will be buried from the same church where she was baptized, confirmed and married; St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, King Street Preston. Resting at Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas St. N., Cambridge, where family and friends were received on Monday, April 18, 2016, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 810 King St. E., Cambridge, on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at 1: 30 p.m. Interment will follow at Parklawn Cemetery.
