    • ALTON, Doris - Peacefully passed at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Monday, April 27, 2009, at the age of 87. The angels rejoice as Doris is now in the arms of her Saviour. Beloved wife of the late, Charles Marshal Alton (1991). Sadly missed by her children, Linda Alton and Joan Shorthouse. Cherished forever by her grandchildren, Jennifer Shorthouse of St. Mary's Ont. and Kevin Shorthouse of Campbell River, B.C. Always remembered by her great-grandchildren, Kadence, Valaree and Isaiah. Predeceased by her brother, John and survived by her brother, Robert Lane (Helen) of Vancouver, B.C.; her brother-in-law, Hugh Alton (Irene) of Guelph, Ont.; and sister-in-law, Bert Lane of Victoria, B.C. For 25 years Doris and her husband Marsh, owned and operated the Alton Grocery store at the Delta. Upon retiring she became active in leading the Adult Fellowship Seniors Group at Forward Baptist Church for over 25 years. Throughout Doris's life she was a real blessing for many seniors giving much time to share her love and kindness. She was involved with the Leprosy Mission and knitted sweaters and made clothing for orphans in Zambia. Doris always put others first and will be remembered for her kind spirit and all the love in her heart. Visiting will be held at the Fairview Mennonite Home, 515 Langs Drive, Cambridge, on Friday, May 1, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the Fairview Mennonite home on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 11 a.m. followed by reception and then interment at the Everton Cemetery, Guelph.
