- ASHTON, Douglas H. - At Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, on Monday, July 15, 2002, after a lengthy illness, Douglas Herbert Ashton, formerly of Pandora Ave. N., aged 79 years. Douglas was a self employed sales agent and had served during the Second World War with the Queens Own Rifles and was one of the first soldiers to land on D-Day. He was for over 30 years a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 844, Toronto. He is predeceased by his parents, Jack Ashton and Dorothy Ritter and his wife, the former Lillian Bass. Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 621 King St. W., Kitchener on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. Cremation to follow. Interment will take place in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto on Wednesday, July 24 at 2 p.m. with Rev. William G. Linley officiating.
