  ATKINSON, William Robert "Bill" - passed away peacefully, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Saturday, October 4, 2008, in his 88th year. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Elizabeth (nee Thomas) of Stirling Heights LTCC, Cambridge. Loving father of Gail Cooper (Garry) of Leduc, Alberta, Wayne (Susan) of Kitchener, Debra Nicol of Cambridge, Sue Howatt (Tom) of Cambridge. William will be fondly remembered by his 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Jack (Evelyn) of Houston, B.C., Bette Savage (Victor) of Guelph and Virginia Leggett of Stitsville. William was predeceased an infant daughter, Suzanne and his parents, Oren and Lucia Mae Atkinson. William retired in 1986 after 34 years of dedicated service as the Personnel Manager at Canadian General Tower Ltd. Previously he was employed by McDonald Douglas of Malton and by London Life. William was both an avid nature and animal lover and in his retirement enjoyed many years spent at Sauble Beach with family and friends. William took an active role in his community; serving in various ways with many associations including the Progressive Conservative Party, Chamber of Commerce and Wesley United Church. At William's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service, private family interment will take place. Friends are invited to join the family at an open house to celebrate his life on Thursday, October 16, 2008 from 3: 30-5: 30 p.m. at the Galt Country Club 'Hespeler Room', 750 Coronation Blvd. Cambridge. As expressions of sympathy, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Cambridge and District Humane Society in his memory would be appreciated by the family.
