- REV. ROBERT BRYDEN
A retired minister of the United Church of Canada, Rev. Robert Bryden, 48 Ball Avenue, died Monday, at his home after a lengthy illness. Mr. Bryden has resided in Galt, for the past 12 years. Born in Eramosa Township, he was the son of the late Robert Bryden and Mary Luttrell Bryden. Mr. Bryden retired over 30 years ago, after a lengthy service in the church and an outstanding career in the educational and servive fields. The late Mr. Bryden was licensed by the Presbytery in North Bay, in 1909. He graduated from Queen's University theology course in 1908. While at the university he graduated with honors in the classics course, attaining a gold medal in Latin. He also achieved a partial honors course in modern languages and philosophy as well as his Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1910 he served as moderator in North Bay district; from 1924 to 1925 in Grey Presbytery as moderator and was chairman of the North Bay Presbytery in 1931. As well Mr. Bryden served as president of the Children's Aid Society of Parry Sound and later as president of the Sunday School Association of Grey County. His pastorates were in Powassan, Parry Sound and North Bay from 1910 to 1912; following this in Kingston, Chatsworth, Parry Sound and also at Collingwood. His chief interests were theology and church history and he was an avid amateur photographer, He is servived by his wife Lydia Moore Lebrow; two sons, Robert (Bert) of Collingwood and M. A. Bryden of Toronto, a daughter, Mrs. Benson (Mary) Wingham of Galt; two sisters, Miss Janet Bryden, Eventide Home, Galt and Mrs. Stanley (Margaret) Parkinson, Guelph. Also surviving are two grandchildren. Friends will be received at Little's Funeral Home, 39 Grand Avenue north, where service will be held on Wednesday, May 19, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Mount View Cemetery.
