- SAD OCCURRENCE - A most lamentable accident took place in Galt, on Tuesday of last week. As Mr. Jerome Allan, of the firm of Attwood & Allan of the Galt Stave factory, was engaged in using a circular saw, a piece of wood caught by some means in the machinery, and was thrown with great violence, striking Mr. Allan in the abdomen. The blow was a very severe one, and caused injuries, which, notwithstanding the best medical skill, ultimately proved fatal. Mr. Allan was conveyed home immediately after the unfortunate accident, but only lingered until Friday morning, when death terminated his sufferings. The deceased although but a comparatively short time amongst us, had won the confidence and esteem of a large circle of acquaintances. He was in the prime and vigor of life, and his untimely death is another warning to thoughtle men, of the uncertainty of life, and should im-press upon all, that "In the midst of life, we are in death." Mr. Allan's remains were attended to their last resting place on Saturday last, by a large number of our most respectable townmen. -Dumfries Reformer.
