One who can delineate with brush or pencil those indications of character and disposition, which tell the tale of though and purpose, so that a perfect face stands out before one possesses more than dainty touch or faultless coloring and must be a true artist. To know that Mr. Krupp, of Saginaw, is such a man one needs out to study the beautiful works of his studio comparing his artistic portraits with the faces thus from childhood devoted his energies to the study and portrayal of human beauty, and his reward has largely been in the satisfaction of his artistic deal. Word was received here announcing the death of Rev. Samuel Krupp, well known in the Twin-City. He passed away at New Carlisle, Indiana, on Wednesday, Jan. 9th. The remains were brought to Kitchener and the funeral was held on Monday from the funeral parlors of Lippert and Hunter. Rev. Mr. Krupp was born in 1832, near the village of Waterloo. His parents died when he was a boy, and he was adopted into the family of Joseph Snyder, a farmer living near Waterloo. In this home of the Mennonite faith he was brought up with the Christian principles that were so outstanding in his later life. He taught school for a number of years, and was ordained to the ministry in the Evangelical church in 1859. He served in this capacity in the Canada Conference or forty-five years, holding the office of presiding elder for a term of three years. He was married to Magdalena Wegenast, who predeceased him in 1917. Of the four, sons and two daughters of the family the following survive: Benjamin, of Waukegan, Ill, Samuel of Detroit, Mrs. Shreve, of Detroit, and Mrs. Fred Meyers of Lansing.
One of the outstanding characteristics of the deceased was his simplicity of life and his humble devotion to his Master. He spent the last few years at Haven Hubbard Memorial Home, New Carlisle, where he was known as "Grandpa."
On his ninety-fourth birthday he preached the sermon at the chapel there, to the delight of the congregation. His intellect remained clear and alert till the end and in letters to local friends he expressed enjoyment of the Christmas festivities.
