Notes |
- In Loving Memory of Private Richard G. Barnes Who Died for His King and Country May 1915 One precious to our hearts has gone, The voice we loved is stilled; The place made vacant in our home Can never more be filled. Our Father in His wisdom called The boon His love had given; And, though in earth the body lies, The soul is safe in Heaven

CHUM SAYS HE SAW PTE. BARNES KILLED.
[Special [Special to The Advertiser.] GALT, June 22.-Another Galt boy has shed his blood for his King and country. A chum of Pte. R. George Barns, writing to a lady friend in Preston, told her to notify Pte. Barnes parents that he saw their son killed in battle, and helped to bury him.
Pte. Barnes enlisted with the 11th Battalion of Winnipeg while in the western city on a vielt, and later was transferred to the 4th Battalion. On June 11 his parents were notified by the militia department that he had been wounded. Pte. Barnes was only 22 years of age, and was born and raised in Galt, and the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Barnes, Ball avenue, who greatly feel their loss.
