- DEATH OF BRESLAU MAN IS ALLEGED TO BE SURROUNDED BY SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES
Charles Weiler, Aged 40, Passed Away Sunday Morning, Death Being Due to Exhaustion Caused by Lack of Nourishment.
Coroner Dr. R. Kalbfleisch ordered that a postmortem be, held of the body of the late Mr. Charles Weiler, who passed away at his home in Breslau on Sunday morning last, and it is alleged suspicious circumstances surround his death.
The postmortem examination was held on Wednesday by Drs. H. Hagmier and Edwin Hagmier, on the body at Lippert's morgue, an inquest will be held at the morgue at eight o'clock tonight.
Lack of Nourishment
The deceased had been sick for the Past ten weeks, suffering with gastritis, which is inflammation of the stomach. The immediate cause of death is given on the doctor's certificate as "exhaustion from lack of nourishment.
The late Mr. Weiler was born in New Germany, but for the past few years be had be a living in Breslau. He was a butcher by trade A wife survives, there being no family. He was in his 40th year.
Relatives of the deceased held suspicions that death may have been caused by poison, and asked Coroner Kalbfleisch to hold an inquest. After looking into the case, the coroner decided to do so and ordered a post examination mortem examination.
Dr. Hueharghard was the doctor in attendance during the illness. In conversation with a Telegraph representative this afternoon stated that the wife of the deceased stated that Mr. Weiler had drank some cider and thought perhaps it had caused death. However, the doctor stated that after looking into this he thought there was nothing in it cause death.
Coroner's Jury Will Await Report of Official Analysis
The inquest was opened on Tuesday evening before Coroner F. H. Kalbfleisch, into the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of Charles w Weiler, who passed away at his home in Breslau after a ten weeks illness.
The jury, which was composed the following, after being sworn in at the City Hall, viewed the reins
at Lippert's morgue
C. C. Hahn, F. Ferguson.
The coroner reported that during the afternoon Drs. H. H. Huehnerghard, and E. Hagmeier, made a general postmortem examination on the body. The different organs of the body were sent to Toronto to be analyzed. After viewing the remains at the morgue, the jury was dismissed until a report is received from the analyst, which will probably take anywhere from three days to a week.
Funeral Held Wednesday.
The funeral was held Wednesday from Breslau to the Roman Catholic cemetery at New Germany.
During the ten weeks' illness, it is stated Doctors attended the deceased, namely Drs. Hagmmeir, H. M. Lackner, Weidenhamner, Waterloo, Ochs, Preston, and Huehnerghard.
These who held certain suspicions of alleged poisoning, advised Coroner Kalbfleisch of the case. Coupled with the suspicious of the Breslau people two of the doctors who were suspicious. It is said that during the illness certain symptoms were found, which are often shown as the result of poison.
After consulting with Crown Attorney Bowlby it was therefore decided to hold the inquest to either substantiate the suspicions or else disprove them.
