  Fatal Accident in Galt A most deplorable accident happened in Galt on Monday last, whereby a young man named John Bryden, one of two brothers occupying a farm on the Blair Road, close to the town, met with such injuries as to result in his death. Mr. Bryden had been on a visit to his brother James, who lives in Puslinch, and was returning from thence by way of Galt about 7 o'clock in the evening. Mr. Bryden was driving a high spirited team, one of them being a very fine young colt and while coming down Beverly Street in this town he was overtaken by some parties riding on horseback, who were apparently running their horses. This caused Mr. Bryden's team to start off on a run, seeing which the parties commenced shouting. The frightened team then got beyond Mr. Bryden's control, and they dashed down the street. At the intersection with Main Street the now maddened team endeavored to take the turn, but they failed in doing so., and ran with great violence against the post of the verandah in front of Mr. Eby's hotel, dashing the deceased from his seat and ripping the box completely off the vehicle - the horses continuing on their course with the running gear behind them. Mr. Bryden on being picked up and carried into Mr. Eby's complained greatly of his leg, and upon Dr. brown's arrival that gentleman pronounced it to be broken between the knee and the ankle. Prompt steps were taken to convey the injured man home, he being made as comfortable as possible for the journey; and on his arrival at this residence the broken limb was set, and it was hoped that a speedy recovery from his injuries would result. Such was not to be the case, however. During the whole of Tuesday poor Bryden did not rest well; and about midnight of that day it was evident to his brother and sister that a great change was taking place in hm. Drs. Brown and Lundy were at once sent for and were as quickly as possible at the house; but all their efforts to stay the advance of the dread visitor were in vain, and about 7 o'clock on Wednesday morning the injured man breathed his last. It was evident that he had received internal injuries when thrown from the wagon, and that these injuries were the cause of his death. The deceased was an exemplary young man, and was universally respected by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. He was unmarried, and was aged 35 years and eleven months at the time of his death. His funeral took place yesterday afternoon, the body being interred in the Doon Cemetery. We should mention that the horses with the running gear of the wagon attached, continued their maddened race down Main Street after Mr. Bryden had been thrown out until they struck the iron bridge at the foot of the street. Here the wagon ran up the truss, throwing the horses over, and they were secured. One of them was cut rather badly, but no serious injuries were sustained.
