    • St. Agatha teen mourned by friends

A 17-year-old St. Agatha boy was killed Thursday night while riding his bicyclcle on Erbs Road. Calvin Nedeljkovich was transported to Grand River Hospital in serious condition where he later succumbed to his injuries. The accident took place at about 8: 30 p.m., just east of St. Agatha. Nedeljkovich was riding his bicycle eastbound along Erbs Road when he was struck by a pickup truck traveling in the same direction. A 38-year-old St. Agatha man driving the 2005 GMC truck which struck Nedeljkovich was not injured.

The section of Erbs Road between Notre Dame Drive and Wilmot Line was closed to traffic for several hours while the scene was examined. Nedeljkovich's parents were not available for comment.

Friends of Nedeljkovich offered their condolences to his family. "We all knew him," said Dana Schiemann, who dropped by the office of the Independentwith a group of friends last Friday.

The girls described him as a rebel, who was very artistic and quiet. "Quiet, but loud at the same time," said Holley Dammeier. They described him as the type of person who went with the flow, and was very close to his friends and family. Nedeljkovich had a twin sister who he looked identical to, they said. The teen was often spotted doodling cars, which was one of his favourite things to draw, they said. "He was just a great person,"Dammeier said.

Waterloo-Oxford vice-principal Doug McCluskey said Nedeljkovich was in his second year of co-op work placement. "He was a very nice young man," he said. McKlusky said the boy has four other siblings at the school. 'It's having an impact, he was well known and recognized." The front lobby of the school currently holds a memorial dis-play. McKlusky said a tree will likely be planted in the spring, depending on the family's wishes.
