    • Death of Mr. Angus Kennedy

An old familiar form and face has been removed from amongst us by the death of Mr. Angus Kennedy, which took Place at his residence, Church street east, on Friday morning last. For some weeks past Mr. Kennedy had been suffering from a severe form of Jaundice, and on the morning mentioned he succumbed to the attack.

There was probably no better known man in the town than the subject of this brief notice. He came of a hardy race, having been born in Islay, Scotland. Most of his brothers followed the sea for a profession, and if we mistake not two of them were lost in the wreck of an Anchor line steamer about twelve years ago. The deceased himself followed the trade of a shoemaker, and for many years, was employed in the old "Penitentiary" shoe store on Main Street. He came to Galt in the year 1861, and it may safely be said that during all the years be resided amongst us he never made an enemy. He was a devoted admirer of the Old Kirk, and took the greatest interest in the struggles which have left that church in a weakened condition in Canada. He leaves a widow and seven children to mourn his loss.

The deceased having been a prominent member of the Masonic circles, the funeral on Sabbath afternoon last was conducted according to the rites of that order. A very large number of the Brethren were in attendance, many of them being from Hespeler, Preston, Waterloo, and other towns. There was also a very large attendance of citizens, and, as the cortege wended its way in the calm quiet of the beautiful Sabbath afternoon to the cemetery many hearts felt sad at the thought that they were paying the last tribute of respect to one whose name had been a " household word" with them for so many years.
