    • Death of Native Son - Late John Anderson Resided Here For 73 Years

      There passed away on Thursday afternoon one of Ayr's most prominent citizens in the person of John Anderson, after an illness of fourteen weeks duration. Deceased was born 2 miles south of Ayr and had always resided in this community. He was a blacksmith by trade and for over forty years successfully conducted a shop in Ayr. He was known far and wide as a man of sterling qualities of heart and head and his patrons were always assured of a square deal. He was also well known in sporting circles, being an enthusiastic curler and bowler and many members of the fraternity in Western Ontario will learn with regret of his passing. Deceased took quite an interest in municipal affairs and at one time was a member of the village council. He was a Presbyterian in religion, being a member of Stanley Street Church, and latterly of Knox United. He was also a member of Dolman Lodge, I.O.O.F. His wife predeceased him ten years ago, while the following children survive: Mrs. George Ross, Alberta; Miss Ethel, at home; Dr. Marshall and William L., Galt. The funeral on Saturday afternoon was largely attended, many friends and acquaintances, including representatives of both Galt Curling Clubs, being present to pay their last respects. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful, bearing mute testimony of the high esteem in which deceased was held. The services were conducted by Rev. J. W, Currie, while the following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: Messrs. Walter Nichol, Paris, Wm. Manson, Dr. Robertson, John Manson, Stephen Marshall and John Q. Reid.
