• Notes

  This lady, widow of the late Thos. Rutherford, who has been long a well known and widely repected resident of Galt, died at her residence, Glebe street, early Wednesdy morning last. She has been a severe sufferer for many weeks and for some death has been looked for at any moment, but her wonderfully strong constitutuon kept her up when others would have succumbed. Deceased, whose maiden name was Jane McPhail, daughter of the late James McPhail and sister of Mr. Alex McPhail, West River Road, was born in Philidelphia in 1826. When about three years of age she removed with her parents to the farm at present occupied by Alex McPhail, but subsequently came to Galt about 1849, where she has since resided. She leaves a family of ten children, all grown to manhood and womanhood, of these Helen, Maggie, Janet, Annie, Edith and John are at home, Thomas resides in Galt, Jean (Mrs. Cooper) , in Toronto, Aggie,(Mrs. Crawford) in Hillsdale, and James, in Easton, PA. The funeral takes place this afternoon at 3: 30 o'clock to Mount View Cemetery. Mrs. Rutherford was a consistent Christian woman, posessed of a kindly and obliging nature, she was a true friend and good neighbor and many will regret her death. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church before the disruption and joined Knox Church when Dr. Bayne left the old Kirk and has continued a faithful member since.
