    • Passing of Mrs. John Murray

With unexpected suddenness came the death on Monday afternoon, from paralysis of the heart, of Mrs. John Murray, Piper St. the deceased, who had not been in the best of health for some time, was taken seriously ill about 8 o'clock on Sunday evening. Prompt medical attention was of no avail, the patient gradually becoming weaker until death intervened at 3 pm the following day. Mrs. Murray, whose maiden name was Jessie Malcolm, was born in Perthshire, Scotland, and was in her 77th year. She came to Canada at the age of 20 years and had resided in Ayr for over half a century. In 1854 she was united in marriage with John Murray, for many years a prominent business man in the community and who predeceased his partner in life by about five years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Murray were highly respected pioneers and their memory will long be cherished as model citizens. Mrs. Murray was a woman of marked intelligence, admirable force of character and a kindly disposition that endeared her to a wide circle of friends. She was also, especially in earlier years, an ardent worker in church circles, being a consistent member of Knox congregation since her girlhood. A son and three daughters survive to mourn their loss, viz., Alex W., Mrs. W. D. Watson, and Misses Mary Ann and Jennie, all of Ayr. The funeral took place yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, when all that was mortal of a beloved mother and worthy citizen were laid to rest in the beautiful Ayr cemetery. The pallbearers were old friends of the family, namely, Messrs. Thos. Easton, J. S. Black, James Malone, D. McColl (Ayr), John Moffatt (Berlin) and James Moffatt (Galt). The services were conducted by the deceased's longtime pastor, Rev. John Thomson, assisted by Rev. D. l. Ellison, and were of a most impressive character, the obsequies being largely attended by all classes of the community.
