Death of Highly Esteemed Citizen Occurred Early Sunday Morning

After being confined to his home through illness for a period of seven years, the death occurred on Sunday morning at 2.30 o'clock of Robert J. Carrick, in his 78th year. Deceased was born on the East River Road, 3½ miles south of Galt. He continued to reside there until the time of his marriage to Mary Stalker of Kirkwall, when the young couple removed to a farm on the Roseville Road, two miles east of Roseville. There they resided until fifteen years ago when they retired to Ayr. The late Mr. Carrick was a man of exemplary character and for a great many years he held the position of elder in the First Presbyterian Church, Galt. He was later a member of the Trustee Board of Knox United Church, Ayr. He was highly esteemed for his many fine qualities and was beloved by a host of friends. Besides his widow, he is survived by the following four daughters: Miss Margaret, Mount Royal College, Calgary; Mrs. J. A. Gillespie, Ayr; Mrs. Geo. P. Moore, North Dumfries, and Mrs. (Rev.) Clifford Roger, St. Marys. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: James and William Carrick, Milwaukee; Mrs. Geo. R. Barrie, North Dumfries; Mrs. James Douglas, Galt, and Mrs. W. J. McMurtry, Galt. There was a large attendance at the funeral, which was held on Tuesday afternoon to Mount View Cemetery, Galt. Services in charge of Rev. J. W. Currie, assisted by Rev. K. J. MacDonald, Galt, were held at both the residence and at the Chapel in the Cemetery. At the services here Miss Marybelle Douglas sang very touchingly, "There's no Night There." The pallbearers were: T. O. Scott, G. H. Lawrence, R. K. Cowan, George Cadwell, Adam Douglas and James Dalzell.
