  • Notes 
    • After an illness of several months, there passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. Scherer, in Elmira, Nicholas Hoffer. Deceased was born in Alsace-Loraine [sic], Germany, in 1829, emigrated to Canada in 1853, and settled on a farm near Floradale, after having married Catherine Burr in 1855. There they lived over 50 years when they removed to Floradale. After the death of his wife, Mr. Hoffer removed to Elmira. To Mr. and Mrs. Hoffer were born 8 children, namely Christina, who died in 1879, aged 22 years, Jacob, of Petosky, Mich.; Solomon, David Nicholas and Catherine (Mrs. M. Scherer), of Elmira: Magdalena (Mrs. Bradley) of Toronto; Adam of Southampton. The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon. There will be service in the Evangelical church at Elmira after which the burial will take place in the Upper Woolwich Cemetery.
