Death of Mrs. Robt. Guthrie - Native of this District Passes Away Aged 84 Years - On Saturday, Aug. 28th, at 4: 30 a.m. there passed away in Galt Hospital, Catharine Mary Tinling, widow of the late Robert Guthrie, in her 84th year. For many months she had suffered acutely, and a week ago was removed to the hospital where a brief attack of bronchial pneumonia brought her release. She was born on a farm near Cedar Creek, and was the sole survivor of a family of four daughters and three sons. She was a public school teacher for several years in Mill creek and Ayr. A member of the Presbyterian Church in Ayr she for many years belonged to the Choir and taught in the Sabbath School and until her death was an interested member of the W.M.S. and a most generous contributor to its funds. She married Mr. Guthrie in 1886 and his death occurred four years ago. Of the family there are remaining two sons and a daughter, Messrs. Henry and James Guthrie and Mrs. Murdo McRae, and three nephews, Mr. John W. Maus, Ayr, and Messrs. Frank and Norman Fraser. Mrs. Guthrie was a refined Christian gentle woman of a type that is becoming very rare. Her well-stored mind, quick sympathy and bright unselfish nature endeared her to a wide circle of relatives and friends who today sorrow for her. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon from Knox United Presbyterian Church to the Ayr cemetery, the services being in charge of Rev. J. J. Brown. The pallbearers were as follows: Messrs. Jas. Black, Geo. Black, John L. Black, Morton Guthrie, James Maus and Wm. Manson.
