Another of the old pioneers of this district passed away in the person of Jonas Snider resident between here and Bloomingdale. After a long illness, he passed away on the 14th inst. at the age of 81. He was married in 1850 to Anna Stauffer, who, with 5 childrn, 2 sons and three daughters, survives him. The funeral was held last Saturday.

Snider.- Mrs. Susannah Snider was born Aug. 13, 1852, near Bloomingdale, Ont.; died March 16, 1939; aged 86 y. 7 m. 2 d. On June 18, 1884, she was united in marriage to Wm. Snider who predeceased her in November, 1937. This union was blessed with 5 sons and 2 daughters. Two sons predeceased the parents and the following remain to mourn her departure: Ivan, Ferman, Clayton, Ina (Mrs. A. Hackborn), and Alda (Mrs. Ivan Cressman). Also 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren survive. In early life she was converted and united with the U. B. Church. Later in life she transferred her membership to the Mennonite Church where she enjoyed fellowship until the Lord saw fit to translate her into that eternal fellowship yonder where all the redeemed have gone. Funeral services were in charge of Bro. H. W. Stevanus, assisted by Bro. C. F. Derstine

Mrs. Susannah Snider

Bloomingdale - The death occurred here, early Thursday morning, of Mrs. Susannah Snider, widow of the late William Snider, in her 87th year. Born in Waterloo township, she had resided there all her life. She was the last surviving member of the late Jonas Snider family. She is survived by three sons, Clayton, at home, Ivan of Breslau, and German, of Kitchener; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Hackborn, Bloomingdale, and Mrs. Ivan Cressman, of Bloomingdale; twenty-two grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. One son predeceased her 20 years ago, while her husband died in November of 1937. Remains will be resting at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until Friday. Funeral arrangements are not yet complete. Burial, however, will be made in the Snyder Mennonite Cemetery, at Bloomingdale.

BRIDGEPORT MAN COMMITS SUICIDE

Suffering From Mental Trouble Aged Patient Leaves Hospital; Found Hanging From Tree

A search for Levi Snider, aged about 70, of Bridgeport, who escaped from the K-W hospital about five o'clock yesterday afternoon, ended at eight o'clock this morning, when his body was found hanging from a tree in front of the farm of William Shantz, Glasgow road, just outside the city limits. The man had committed suicide by hanging himself with a heavy scarf. When found by a resident of the Shantz farm, Snider had been dead for some hours. Coroner F. H. Kalbfleisch was of the opinion the man had been strangled. There will be no inquest.

The late Mr. Snider had been a patient at the K-W hospital for less than a week . He was undergoing mental treatment and was not confined to his bed as many of the other patients were. Shortly after five o'clock, his absence was notified and the city police were notified. The officers were given a description of the man, but no trace of him was found.

A large number of Bridgeport residents formed a search party and scoured the district. Several came to Kitchener and at eight o'-clock notified the provincial police of the disappearance of the man. Immediately, two cars were sent out in search of Snider. Inspector McCaffrey and Sergeant Gardner were --- one car which drove thru parts of the city, at one time were within 400 feet of the place where the body was found this morning. A heavy mist made it difficult for the officers to see clearly.

This morning Irvin C. Hallman notified the provincial police that the body had been found. The remains were removed to the Bechtel and Dreisinger undertaking parlors.

STRAYS FROM HOSPITAL, FOUND HANGED

KITCHENER, Dec. 3. -The dead body of Levi Snyder, aged 70, demented, who strayed from the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital here last night was found hanging from an apple tree just outside the city limits this morning. No inquest will be held.

Death of Levi Snyder

The relatives and friends in this vicinity, of Mr. Levi Snyder of Bridgeport were shocked on Thursday last to hear of his unexpected death. The deceased had been a patient of the K.-W. hospital for but a few days and gave all signs of improving until his sudden departure Wednesday evening.

Quite a few from here and immediate vicinity attended the funeral from his late home in Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon.

The former Eleanor Snyder. she was born Oct. 28, 1892. in Waterloo Township, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs. Joseph S. Snyder A member of Bethany United Mission, Church. she lived In Waterloo for the past 18 years.

She is survived by her husband. Ralph E Koch. four daughters. Mrs. Howard (Mildred) Snyder and Mrs. Roy (Shirley) Weber, both of Kitchener and Miss Muriel Koch and Mrs Robert (Dorothy) Ruggle, both of Waterloo: one brother Ian of Kitchener: two sisters Miss Loretta Snyder and Mrs Lorne Shantz both of Kitchener, four grandchildren.

The body is at Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home where the funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p. m. by Rev. H. S. Hallman and Rev. Lloyd Sider Burial will be In Woodland Cemetery.

Mrs. Ivan Cressman

Mrs. Ivan Cressman of Bloomingdale. mother of Mrs. Neil (Esther) Steinman of Bright, died last Sunday at the home of another daughter living in Bridgeport, Mrs. Irvin Brubacher. She was 73.

She was a widow of the late Ivan Cressman, for many years a Breslau area farmer. The former Alda Snider, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Snider, she was born in Bloomingdale Feb. 19, 1895, and lived in the community all her life.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Laurence Martin at Bloomingdale Mennonite Church last Wednesday, with burial in the Bloomingdale cemetery.

She further expanded her horizons by volunteer teaching of English as a Second Language to wives of international visiting scholars at the University of Waterloo. Along with Harold she enjoyed hosting prayer groups for Wycliffe Bible Translators and Gideons.

David was a graduate of Goshen College, where he obtained his degree in Elementary Education, he was also enrolled in the Mennonite Seminary (AMBS) for three years. He was appointed Pastor, at Holdeman Mennonite Church, for four years, in Wakarusa, Indiana. David was also marketing manager for the former Scottdale Mennonite Publishing House with 17 years service. David loved music and was a member of the Scottdale Heritage Singers and the Scottdale Choral Society. Dave was a self-employed contractor and real estate owner, where he enjoyed remodeling his properties and was contracted by others throughout the area for their needs. He was known by many as an outstanding softball and hockey player in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Dave also managed the "Yankees" a Little League Team in Scottdale. David is gone from our lives, but will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him His loving wife of 56 years, Phebe A. Epp Cressman, whom he married June 9, 1961. His caring children Michael B. Cressman and wife Cori, of Stow, Ma., Jerold L. Cressman and wife Kristin, of Westford, Ma., and Timothy F. Cressman, of Scottdale. Passed away, peacefully on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the age of 96.

Beloved husband of Lucy (nee Stemmler) Koch for 59 years.

Dear father of Alan Koch and Scott Koch.

Ray was the last surviving member of his family.

Predeceased by his parents, Lincoln Koch and Emma Kienzle and his four sisters and six brothers.

Ray retired from Labatt Breweries after 32 years of service.

Ray's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.
Parish prayers 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

The Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at St. Anne's R.C. Church, 268 East Ave. Kitchener followed by interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Anne's R.C. Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).

Devoted grandfather of Jeremey, Jason, Kyle (Lee Ann) and Kraig Dietrich, Jesse (Kristen) Ullman, Emily (Bryan) Runstedler and Jacob Ullman. Great-grandfather of Simon and Austin Ullman. Survived by his brother, Bill (Fay) of Midland, Raymond (Lucy) of Kitchener, Alice Koch of Kitchener, Ruth Lishman of California and father-in-law, Arthur Israel. Predeceased by parents, Lincoln and Emma (Kienzle) Koch; mother-in-law, Hilda Israel; brother, Leonard (1989); sister, Dorothy Malone (1987); sister, Phyllis Ransom (2001) and three brothers who died in their youth. Walter retired 25 years ago as a mechanic from Kingsway Transport. Walter's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 25, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home , 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A funeral service to celebrate Walter's life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 11 a.m. Interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Breslau followed by a reception at the funeral home.
