    BECHTEL, Nora (Brubacher) - Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at her residence, Nithview Community, New Hamburg. Beloved wife of Leonard Albert Bechtel, with whom she would have celebrated 68 years of marriage on June 21, 2009. Nora was born 88 years ago in Waterloo Township, a daughter of the late Harvey and Edna (Eby) Brubacher. She had resided in New Hamburg and was formerly of Preston. Nora was an active member of Preston Mennonite Church and Nith Valley Mennonite Church. She was an avid quilter and pieced many quilts for family and friends. Nora enjoyed knitting, gardening and keeping up with her family's interests. Loving mother of David and Muriel Bechtel of Kitchener, Martha and John Wood of London, Norma and John Lichti of New Hamburg, Dorothy and Richard MacBride of Waterloo, Shirley and Darcy Snyder of New Hamburg. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Greg Bechtel, Krista and Dave Alexander (Dylan and Sadie), John Wood (Meg), Lindsay and Brent Nevin (Ty), Chris and Kim Lichti (Abby and Garrett), Sarah Lichti, Jen and Josh Hiuser (Michaela, Kate and Maggie), Alisa and Ben MacBride-Smith, Jess and Neil Thier (Maya), Trevor Snyder and friend Julia Needham. Also remembered by sisters, Verna Staniek and Elaine Snider; and by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clinton Bechtel, Eldon and Bertie Bechtel, Lloyd and Beatrice Bechtel, Mary and Ken Willsie, and Avon Brophy. Nora was predeceased by daughter, Esther Bechtel (2006); grandson, Richard Wood; great-grandson, Connor Lichti; Louise (Reier) Brubacher; sisters, Clarabel (in infancy), Ella and Maurice Woolner; brother, Ivan and Marie Brubacher; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Fred Staniek, Clifford Snider, Hilda Bechtel, Ruby Bechtel, Elsie and Edwin Eby, Delford and Pearl Bechtel, and Joe Brophy. Friends and relatives may call at Mark Jutzi Funeral Home , 291 Huron St., New Hamburg on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Spring Burial to be held at Mannheim Mennonite Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Nith Valley Mennonite Church with Pastors Matthew and Hendrike Isert-Bender officiating.     Notes:

    Esther died peacefully, at St. Mary's General Hospital, on Tuesday, September 12, 2006. She was 58. Esther is the beloved daughter of Nora (Brubacher) and Leonard Bechtel of New Hamburg. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother, sisters and their spouses; David and Muriel Bechtel of Kitchener, Martha and John Wood of Kilworth, Norma and John Lichti of New Hamburg, Dorothy and Richard MacBride of Waterloo and Shirley and Darcy Snyder of New Hamburg. Her nieces, nephews and their families will also remember Esther. She grew up in the Preston Mennonite congregation where she remained a lifelong member. In her early adult years, Esther worked as a Registered Nursing Assistant and Dental Assistant until schizophrenia curtailed her career plans. Esther struggled with her illness for many years. More recently, she was able to experience some contentment. Her family, friends and faith were important to her. Her family is grateful to the caregivers and residents of Millwood Manor who supported Esther. Friends are invited to share their memories of Esther with her family at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Thursday (today) from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service to remember her life and faith will be held on Friday, September 15, 2006 at 1 p.m., at Preston Mennonite Church with Rev. Claire Osinkosky officiating. A family committal service will be held at Mannheim Mennonite Cemetery on Friday morning at 11 a.m. In memory of Esther, donations to Preston Mennonite Church or the Canadian Mental Health Association would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy and may be arranged through the funeral home, 519-745-8445 or www.erbgood.com In memory of Esther, a tree will be planted through the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home.
