Lovina Cressman
Lovina Snyder, daughter of Bro. Absalom and Sister Elizabeth (Cressman) Snyder of Breslau, Ont., was born June 8, 1864; was married to Bro. Moses S. Cressman, Sept. 20, 1882. To this union were born three sons and two daughters. The surviving children, her husband, parents, brother and large circle of relatives and friends mourn not as those who have no hope, for Sister Cressman united with the church in her early youth and was a faithful member until she was called home, on the 1st of October, 1906, at the age of 42 Y., 3 M., 23 D. Her remains were laid to rest on the 3d in the graveyard adjoining the Cressman M. H., Breslau, where services were conducted by Bish. Jonas Snider of Waterloo from Rev. 14: 13 and by Pre. I. A. Wambold from Phil. 1: 21. The esteem in which Sister Cressman was held was shown by the unusually large concourse that gathered at her burial, not nearly all of the people being able to get into the meeting-house. Sister Cressman suffered for some time of dropsical affection, but seemed to be improving until suddenly she became worse and soon passed away. May God bless our bereaved brother and his children, as well as the parents, brother and the other relatives.

Jan. 29, 1890, he was married to Anna Betzner of Breslau, who died in 1893. This union was blessed with two daughters, Elenora and a child who died in infancy. Sept. 15, 1897, he was married to Barbara S. Burkholder of Markham, who died in 1908. To this union were born a son (Elvin) and 3 daughters (Ada, Edith, and Katie Florence who died in infancy). He is survived by a son (Elvin, missionary in Argentina), 3 daughters (Mrs. Enoch Bauman, Mrs. Abner Rudy, and Ada at home), 2 grandchildren, and many relatives and friends. He united with the Church in May, 1891. His quiet, consistent example, as a brother and Sunday school teacher, was appreciated by the loved ones and many friends. While the family felt keenly the absence at the funeral of Bro. Elvin and his wife in South America, they were somewhat comforted to know he had received the message announcing his father's death and were able to have word again from Elvin on the day of the funeral, the cablegram reading as follows: "Deeply grieved to hear the sad news. Accept sincere sympathy. We condole with you in our mutual and great loss. See word of comfort in II Tim. 1: 10. We continually remember you in our prayers." Funeral services were conducted at the home by Bro. Newton S. Weber, followed by Bro. S. F. Coffman. Bro. Weber spoke briefly at the church on Dan. 12: 3, after which Bro. Jonas Snider preached the funeral sermon. Text, I Cor. 15: 54. Remains laid to rest in cemetery adjoining Breslau Church, where the services were held.
"Another sheaf of gold the angels garnered in,
Another soul with Christ doth rest fore'er from grief and sin,
Another beckoning hand to call His loved ones home,
Another life in memory lies-through deeds of love well done."

Bauman.- Eleanor, daughter of Ozias and Lydia Ann Snyder, was born near Breslau, Ont., July 6, 1891; died on her 25th wedding anniversary, after a lingering illness, in the Turner Private Hospital, Elmire, Ont.; aged 51 y. 7 m. 14 d. She spent most of her life on the Snyder farm,, and only six months ago moved with her family to Elmira. In the year 1905 she confessed Christ as her Savior and united with the Cressman Mennonite Church. Feb. 20, 1918, she was united in marriage to Enoch Bauman, who, with 1 daughter (Erma Fern) , 1 son (Robert Lee), 2 sisters (Edith, Mrs. Abner Rady, New Hamburg, Ont.; Ada, Markham, Ont.), 1 brother (Elvin, missionary in the Argentine, S.A.) and many other relatives and friends mourn her untimely departure. Sister Bauman was a Christian of sterling character. She belonged to the rapidly declining group of Christians who not only kept steady and true in the faith, but make substantial progress in it as well. She was loyal to the doctrines of the Church, both by practice and testimony, and as far as she was able, never withheld her hand to help the work of the Church of her choice. She proved her worth as a Christian mother by her constant concern for the oncoming generation. We have every reason to believe she is at rest, with her loved ones gone on before, awaiting the glorious resurrection of the righteous, when our Lord comes back for his own. Funeral services Feb. 24 were conducted in the Elmira Funeral Home by Bro. Oliver D. Snider, and in the Cressman Mennonite Church by Bro. Oscar Burkholder. Text, II Tim. 2: 11 - 13, 19.

Notes:
Stauffer, Howard Otterbein (1897-1986)
Howard Otterbein Stauffer: deacon in the Mount View Mennonite Church near High River, Alberta, and the Rainham Mennonite Church in Ontario. He was born 19 January 1897 near Breslau, Ontario, and died at Tofield, Alberta, on 16 May 1986. He was married to Stella Mabel Brubaker (8 May 1896-4 June 1933) on 20 November 1923. They had four children. After the death of his first wife, Howard Stauffer married Mary Holderbein (27 October 1907-29 October 1964) on 3 November 1935. After Mary died, Howard married Barbara Fretz (2 April 1905-22 August 1997), the widow of A. Lewis Fretz.
Howard Staffer was the eldest son of Bishop Norman Stauffer . The family came to the High River district in 1901. Howard was baptized and became a member of the Mount View Mennonite Church in 1909. He spent the winter of 1917-18 attending the Ontario Mennonite Bible School in Kitchener, but also worked for the Ford Motor Company in Detroit and on a farm at Guernsey, Saskatchewan in his later teens. He was elected Assistant Superintendent of the Mount View Sunday school in 1918, and became Superintendent and teacher after he returned to the High River district in 1921.
The first year after their marriage in 1923 Howard and Stella Stauffer farmed in the Aldersyde district, but then moved to Duchess where Howard operated a garage until the spring of 1936. The family then moved to a farm near Rosemary, Alberta, but a year later the family moved back to Aldersyde onto Howard's father's old farm. They lived there until 1952 when the farm was sold.
Howard Stauffer was ordained, by lot, as a deacon in the Mount View Mennonite Church on 11 January 1942. Unfortunately, one of the other men in the lot was not able to accept the result. He left the Mount View church and attempted to start a church of his own.
The Stauffer family moved to Ontario in 1952, working at various jobs, including work in Mennonite homes for seniors. In 1959 they returned to Edmonton, where Howard worked in the Rosecrest Home for handicapped children until his retirement in 1965. The family then moved to Ryley near Tofield, and relocated to Tofield in 1975. Howard apparently did not serve as a deacon in Edmonton or Tofield although, having been ordained for life, he continued to be listed in some Mennonite directories.
