    IN DEATH OF W. PARKS DISTRICT LOSES ONE OF OLDEST NATIVE SONS.

    In the death of William Parks, who passed away shortly before noon yesterday at his home on Queen street east, Hespeler loses one of its oldest and most respected citizens and this district loses one of its oldest native-born sons. The deceased was in his 78th year and passed away peacefully yesterday morning. after a prolonged illness.

    The late Mr. Parks was born at Puslinch Lake in 1849 and has been lifelong resident of the adjacent a life district. At the age of about 16 years he came to Hespeler, where he learned the the carriage-making trade at the establishment James Anderson operated In later by opened a carriage and wagon works later years he on Queen street, which he operated until recent years. This was his chosen vocation and he had been employed at it for practically all his life, excepting for a time when he held a position with the Goldie- McCulloch company in Galt.

    In 1869 he married Miss Elizabeth Lochead of Hespeler, who survives him.

    The late Mr. Parks was the oldest living member of the United church, having been on that congregation for over sixty years. He was also a charter member of the Royal Templars When the forerunner of the present Highland Light Infantry was formed, the deceased was among the first to volunteer to enter the ranks and he was also a devotee of hunting and fishing and all similar out-of-door sports.

    He is survived by his wife, two sons, Ralph C. Parks of Preston and Alex. Parks of this town, one sister, Mrs. William Hortop, Queen street, and one brother, J. Wesley Parks, Queen street.

    The funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock from his late residence to the Hespeler cemetery.

    Another Old Resident Passes


    Shortly before noon on Sunday, July 3, 1927, at his home on Queen St. East in Hespeler. He was born in Puslinch Township over 77 years ago and has resided all his life in this district. He spent the early years of his life at Puslinch Lake, where his father kept a hotel. As a young man of 16 years, he came to Hespeler and was apprenticed to the late James Anderson, with whom he learned the wagon making and which he plied most of his lifetime, opening an establishment of his own, except several years he spent working for Goldie-McCullough at Galt. In 1879, he married Elizabeth Lochead of Hespeler. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Alex of Hespeler; Ralph C. of Preston; one brother, J. Wesley; and one sister, Mrs. William Hortop, both of Hespeler. Having spent his lifetime in the district, many were the reminiscences he had of the early days and being of a genial disposition, he remembered the humourous side of them. He enlisted with the militia the year of the Fenian Raids. He was a lifelong member of the United Church, having been one of that congregation for over sixty years. Though ill for years with asthma and heart trouble, he always looked on the bright side of things and was well liked by his wide circle of friends. The funeral was held T uesday afternoon at 2: 30 from his residence to Hespeler Cemetery. Rev. H. L. Merner of the United Church officiated. Pallbearers: John S. Baker, John Jardine, William Hortop, A. J. Beattie, Alex Parks, all of Hespeler and Ralph Parks of Preston.

    Alexander Parks

    HESPELER, Nov. 12 - Alexander Parks, a respected, well-known and practically life-long resident of Hespeler, died Wednesday at his home at the age of 75 years. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Parks. Mr. Parks, for a number of years, operated an asphalt-paving business in Hamilton and Hespeler. He was one of the oldest members of the Commercial Travellers Association and had travelled in Canada and Europe. He was president of the Lakeside Park Association for about 20 years and had been affiliated with the Hespeler Rod and Gun Club. He was a member of the United Church. His wife predeceased him in 1947. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Alexander B. Loblaw, Islington, Mrs. T. Gale, Islington and Mrs. Harold B. Schultz, Preston; one son, Donald, at home and a brother, Ralph of Galt. The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at his residence, Lewis St. Interment will be made in Hespeler Cemetery.

    PARKS, ALEXANDER

    Long a resident of Hespeler, respected and widely-known and for many years, prominent in the membership of the Commercial Travellers' Association, on Wednesday, November 10, 1948, at his home on Lewis St. in Hespeler, at the age of 75. He was a member of one of the oldest families in this district, his parents being the late Mr. and Mrs. William Parks of Puslinch Township. Mr. Parks lived in Hespeler for the greater part of his life. For a great number of years, he has operated an asphalt paving business in Hespeler and Hamilton and his business connections have made well known throughout the province. He was one of the oldest members of the Commercial Travellers' Association and had travelled extensively in Canada and Europe. He had been president of the Lakeside Park Association at McCormick's Point for twenty years, was actively identified with the Hespeler Rod and Gun Club for a great length of time and a member of the United Church. Predeceased by his wife last year, he is survived by three daughters, Isobel (Mrs. Alexander B. Loblaw) and Patricia (Mrs. T. Gale), both of Islington; Ruth (Mrs. Harold R. Schultz) of Preston; a son, Donald Parks, at home; and a brother, Ralph C. Parks of Galt. The service at his residence on Sat. , Nov. 13 at 2 was largely attended. Rev. George Kersey, minister of the United Church officiated. Pallbearers: Harold Schultz, Alex B. Loblaw, Mr. Farley, Graydon Ure, Thomas Gale and Robert Parks. Interment Hespeler Cemetery.
