    SERVED CITY, ROY BAUMAN DIES AT 75

    Roy Bauman, a Waterloo alderman for 19 years, died Monday night at age 75. Bauman, of 43 Melbourne Crescent, Waterloo, died in K-W Hospital after a short illness. First elected to council in 1957, Bauman had served under five mayors and was chairman of almost every committee. Of his long career on city council, Bauman once said, "When I was younger, I really enjoyed debating. I guess you could say it was almost a hobby of mine." Bauman worked for the Economical Mutual Insurance Co., for 50 years, beginning in 1923. He retired as senior accountant in 1969. During that time he helped the country grow from a staff of 12 in one office to 475 at the head office amd 11 branches across Canada. Bauman was born on a farm on what is now Northfield Drive, Waterloo, to Ira Bauman and the former Matilda Groff. He taught adult Sunday school and was a member of Emmanuel United Church. He ran his own six-acre fruit farm from 1938 to 1964 and sold his products at the Waterloo Market. He was also secretary of the Waterloo Horticultural Society, treasurer of the Ontario Pennsylvania-German Society of Breinigsville, Pa. He married the former Catherine Devit and had two daughters. Mr. Bauman's body will be at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, after 7 p.m. today. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel United Church, Bridgeport Road West, Waterloo

    Roy G. -- At the K-W Hospital in Kitchener on Monday, Jan. 4, 1982, Roy G. Bauman, aged 75 years, of 43 Melbourne Cres., Waterloo. Mr. Bauman was born in Waterloo and was a son of the late Ira Bauman and the former Matilda Groff. He was employed as an accountant at Economical Mutual Insurance Company, Kitchener for 50 years, until his retirement eight years ago; he was a member of Emmanuel United Church, Waterloo; a teacher of the adult Sunday School class and a representative to Waterloo Presbytery; he served on the Waterloo Council for a total of 19 years, from 1958 to 1976; was a member of the Pennsylvania-German Society of Breinigsville, Pa. and treasurer of the Ontario Pennsylvania German Folklore Society and secretary of the Waterloo Horticultural Society. Survived by his wife the former Catherine Devitt; two daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Art Reimer) of Shelburne, Ont. and Mrs. Mary-Lynn Dyck of Kitchener; brother of Leander (Lea) of Kitchener, Melvin of London, Ont., Mrs. Emma Erb and Fannie Bauman, both of Cambridge. Also survived by one granddaughter, Laurie. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Henry Dyck and his granddaughter Shelley Dyck and two sisters, Martha and Ilda. Mr. Bauman's family will receive friends at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, after 7 p.m. this evening. At noon on Thursday removal will be made to Emmanuel United Church, Bridgeport Road West, Waterloo, for the funeral service at 2 pm.,. (Thursday) with Rev. Donald Linkletter officiating. Interment to follow in Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo.
