    Passing of Mrs. (Rev.) Carswell - A Great Church Worker Succumbs Practically in Harness

    An esteemed native of, Ayr in the person of Mrs. (Rev.) David Carswell of McKillop passed away suddenly late Friday night at her home near Seaforth, aged 51 years. She was a great worker in the church and had presided at a meeting of ladies that afternoon, when she was stricken with apoplexy, thus practically dieing in the harness. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. Wm. Patterson of Ayr. She was born and married here, the later event taking place on Oct. 24, 1894. Her husband is a native of Glenmorris, where his relatives still reside. Mr. Carswell has been pastor of the Presbyterian Church in McKillop for about 15 years, during which time the deceased by her devotion and personal worth in every good work gained the esteem of the entire community and wielded a far reaching influence. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters: Jean, a teacher, and Helen, a second-year undergraduate of the University of Toronto, and one son, Gordon; also her father, Mr. Patterson, two sisters and two brothers, viz., Mrs. A. Dudman of Savanah, Georgia, Mrs. John Alan, Galt, Robt. G. Patterson, London, and Wm. T. Patterson, Winnipeg. The funeral service in McKillop on Monday was very largely attended, including about a dozen ministers. Among the latter were Revs. G. Hamilton, T. H. Brown, J.S. Hogg, S. McLean, D. Johnston, R.A. Lawdy, H. Moyer, G. Telfold, W.D. McIntosh and Robt. Ross. Rev. Dr. Larkin of Seaforth had charge of the service. Interment was made at Ayr on Monday afternoon, where the service was conducted by Rev. Dr. Thomson. The pallbearers here were Messrs. Jas. G. Fair, A.G. Watson, J.W. Henderson, Ed. Whitson, J.C. Kyle and John Allan (Galt). Among the friends from a distance who attended the last sad rites were the following: Mr. and Mrs. John Carswell and the Misses Elizabeth, Mary and Kate Carswell of Glenmorris; Mr. and Mrs. John Murray and Mr. and Mrs. John Allan of Galt; Mr. and Mrs. R.G. Patterson and son Cameron of London. Two elders of Carswell's church, Messrs. Carbill and Scarlett, accompanied himself and family.

    Death of G. P. Carswell

    Gordon Patterson Carswell, an employee in the accounting branch of the Waterworks Department at the City Hall, Toronto, collapsed and died just as he arrived inside the door of his home at 68 Hillsdale Avenue West on Friday night. He left his office at the close of the day's business apparently in his customary health. Deceased was born at Seaforth, Ont., and was in his 24th year. He was the son of Rev. D. Carswell, well-known retired United Church minister and elder in College Street United Church, where deceased was a popular member of the choir, being deputy bass soloist, under the leadership of Ald. D. C. Macgregor. He is survived by his father and two sisters; one a Vice-Principal in a Toronto school, and the other living at London, Ont. The funeral took place to Ayr Cemetery on the arrival of the morning train on Monday. The services were in charge of Rev. Dr. Wilson, pastor of College Street United Church, Toronto, assisted by the Rev. J. W. Curried of Ayr. The pallbearer's were Erle Sharp, A. G. Watson, W. R Anderson, Ayr; John Allan, Galt; Cameron Patterson, Gordon Kerr, Toronto, and W. J. Moon, Stevensville.
