Mrs. Melanchton Shantz
DIDSBURY, Alta., Mrs. Melanchton Shantz of Disdbury, Alta., formerly of New Dundee, died Sunday, in Disbury Hospital. She was 90. The former Samantha Shantz, she was born in Waterloo County, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Shantz. She was married in Wilmot Township in 1902 and moved west with her husband, to farm. She was a member of Didsbury Missionary Church. She was predeceased by her husband, in 1969 and is survived by two sons, Birtil Clarence of Kitchener and Emerson of Dids-,bury: three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Alfa ) Brado and Mrs. Ele ( Marie) From both of Didsbury and Mrs. Ruth Kasher of North Vancouver, B.C.: two brothers, Rev. Sidney Shantz of Preston and Harold of New Dundee; two sisters, Olive and Aida of New Dundee; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at Disbury Missionary Church, Wednesday. Burial will be in Didsbury cemetery.

At St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, on Thursday, Nov. 11, 1982, following a lengthy illness, Olive Shantz, aged 86 years, of Nithview Home, New Hamburg. She was born in Wilmot township.
A member of Shantz Mennonite Church, Baden. Sister of Russell Shantz and Violet (Mrs. Noah Heater), both of Waterloo and Edna (Mrs. Clinton Habel) of Kitchener.
Predeceased by her parents, Herman Shantz and the former Sarah Ann Schmit;: two brothers, Lincoln and Lloyd; three sisters, Mrs. Alfreda Roth, Mrs. Lyla Roth and Mrs. Salena Cressman.
The funeral service was held at the Ratz-Bechtel funeral chapel, Kitchener on Saturday, with Chaplain Gerald Schwartzentruber (Nithview Home) officiating. Interment in Shantz Mennonite cemetery, Baden.

Mr. Shantz was. a very active member of the Missionary Church and was also very active in many farming organizations. He was a director of Gay Lea Food Products and past secretary of the Federation of Agriculture for Waterloo county.
Husband of the former Gladys Betzner; father of Glenn of New Dundee, Darcy of RR 2, New Hamburg and Doris of RR 1, Nobel; brother of Rev. Sydney S. of Fairview Mennonite Home, Cambridge, Miss Elda and Miss Olive, both- of New Dundee. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Greta Betzner; one brother and four sisters.

SHERK (nee Bock), Marjorie 1907 - 2010 Marjorie Elfleda (nee Bock) Sherk passed away at Fairview Mennonite Home in Cambridge, on Friday, September 10, 2010 at the age of 103 years, 5 months, and 17 days. Marjorie was born on March 24, 1907 in Wilmot Tp.; daughter of Emerson and Melvina (nee Shantz) Bock. Married in 1935 to Floyd Sherk, they lived in New Dundee, Ontario. In 1981 they moved to an apartment in the Fairview Mennonite Complex, Cambridge. Floyd died in 1986. Marjorie was a faithful member of Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church, New Dundee. Marjorie is survived by her five children, Marian (Fred) Witmer of New Hamburg, Vernon (Leone) Sherk of Kitchener, Kathryn Sherk of Kitchener, Allan (Carolyn) Sherk of Mississauga and Alice (Pete) Gill of Indiana. Survived by nine grandchildren, Joan (Paul) Doehn, James (Karen) Witmer, Bevin (Crystal) Witmer, Sheila (Doug) Dedman, Wendy (Brian) Wiens, Peter (Paula) Sherk, Lisa (Amitai) ben David, Kimberly (Chris) Brand and Rhonda (Mike) Williams. Also survived by 17 great-grandchildren, four greatgreat- grandchildren, by her sister Althea Devitt, sisters-in-law Grace Bock, Norma Sherk and Isabel Frey; and many Bock and Sherk nieces and nephews and their families. DEVITT, Althea Of Tiverton, passed away at the Kincardine Hospital on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in her 98th year. She was born on October 18, 1919 to the late Melvina Shantz and Emerson Bock. Beloved wife of the late Homer Devitt who predeceased her in 1991. Greatly missed by her children Sylvia (Erv) Nixdorf of Vancouver Island, Graham (Carol) Devitt of Waterloo, Blake (Patty) Devitt of Ripley, Brad (Marla) Devitt of Florida and Lavonne (Brian) Robinson of London. Also survived by 9 grandchildren, 9 great- grandchildren, sister-in-law Grace Bock of Toronto and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her son Dennis in 1957 and siblings Ronald Bock, Cameron Bock and Marjorie Sherk. Althea had a deep faith that sustained her throughout her life. She was a gentle and caring person who made everyone she met feel special. She was a gifted artist and writer who took pleasure in sharing her artwork and memoirs with family and friends. A Funeral Service will be held at the MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral Home , Ripley, on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 2 p.m. with visitation 2 hours prior. Interment Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener. The family wishes to thank the staff at Tiverton Park Manor for their support and compassionate care given to Althea. EARLMONT ELMER POTH 1922 - 2007 Earl passed away peacefully, at the Maples Nursing Home, Tavistock, on Sunday, July 15, 2007, after a lengthy illness, at age 85. Dearly loved father of Connie and Ken Dietrich of St. Agatha and Nancy and Rob Becker of Durham; loving grandfather to Craig and Terri Dietrich and Jamie, Josie, and Justin Becker; brother of Ken and Ida Poth of New Dundee. Earl was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Elsie Poth; a brother, Robert; a sister and brother-in-law, Muriel and Glen Dilworth, and sister-in-law, Phyllis Poth. Also predeceased by Gert Poth. During the Second World War, Earl served in the Black Watch Regiment. He also had many hobbies including bird watching, stamp collecting, listening to Big Band music, and the Wurlitzer organ. Friends are invited to share their memories of Earl with his family at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo today (Tuesday) from 7-9 p.m. There will be a graveside committal service held at New Dundee Union Cemetery at 1: 30 on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 followed by a memorial service in the funeral home chapel at 3 p.m. A reception will then be held in the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home. Condolences for the family and donations to the Parkinson Society may be arranged through the funeral home, 519-745-8445 or www.erbgood.com. In living memory of Earl, a tree will be planted through the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home.
