    The Grim Reaper is busy these days. On Wednesday the report reached Elmira that Mrs. Logal, formerly a resident of our village had died suddenly at the home of one of her children, Mrs. A. Voisin, Glenallan. Three sons, John, George and Charles reside in that district, Mrs. A. Schedewitz, Elmira, is a daughter. The funeral will be held at Macton on Friday morning. She was 78 years old.

    Notes:

    Mrs Albert Schedewitz passed away at her home this morning after a lingering illness at the age of 66 years, seven months and seven days. Before her marriage she was Emma Vogel. She was born Peel Township and came to Elmira 35 years ago where she had since resided.

    She is survived by her husband, three sisters and four brothers. Funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 with services at St Theresa's Church. Interment will take place in the Elmira R. C. Cemetery.

    Linwood, Dec. 11 - Ill for the past three years, Charles Logel died at his residence, three miles west of Linwood, early today in his 67th year. The deceased, a former, was born in Wellesley township in 1871. With the exception of 10 years which he spent in Elmira, Mr. Logel lived his entire life in this district. He was a member of St. Mary's RC church, Linwood, and was married in St. Clements on Sept. 18, 1894, to Louise Brenner.

    Surviving are his widow, eight daughters, Mrs. Joseph Haid of Hesson, Mrs. Stanley Keller of New Germany, Mrs. Michael Kocher of Hesson, Mrs. Joseph Moyer of Winterbourne, Mrs. Albert Helm of Waterloo, Mrs. Edgar Merkel of Kitchener, Miss Mary Logel of Waterloo, and Margaret at home, two sons, John of Arthur and Joseph at home, two sisters, Mrs. Fred Starr of Macton, and Mrs. Patrick Doherty of Hesson, three brothers, Frank in Saskatchewan, George of Peel township, and Bert of Macton. One son Alex predeceased him 26 years ago.

    Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's RC church, Macton, on Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock with burial to the adjoining cemetery. Rev. V. J. Morgan will officiate.

    Linwood, Dec. 18 - Seriously ill for the past week, George Logel, 64, died at his late residence, 4th line of Peel township yesterday afternoon. He had been in failing health for some time. His brother, Charles Logel, predeceased him one week ago. The deceased, a son of Xavier Logel, was born on the town line west of Macton. He was a member of the Holy Name society and the Alter Society of St. Joseph's RC church, Macton. The late Mr. Logel was married to Christina Schiebel on July 30, 1901.

    Surviving are his widow, six daughters, Mrs. Victor Schaff, Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. P. Kasky, South Bend, Ind., Mary and Helen of Waterloo, and Margaret and Kathleen at home; seven sons, Charles of 4th of Peel township, Alfred of Waterloo, Oscar and Frank of Kitchener, William, Edward and Jerome at home; two brothers, Bert of Macton and Frank of Manitoba; two sisters, Mrs. Patrick Doherty of Hesson and Mrs. Fred Starr of Glenallan and 13 grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Joseph's RC church, Macton with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. V. J. Morgan will officiate.

    Mrs. L. Ruth received the sad news that her brother, Mr. Francis Voisin, died suddenly at his home in Formosa last Saturday, from a heart attack. Mr. Voisin was 51 years of age. Besides Mrs. Ruth the deceased is survived by another sister, Mrs. Leo Boppre, of Waterloo, and three brother, George, Waterloo, and Edward and Albert of Glen Allen. Mr. and Mrs. Ruth attended the funeral which was held at Formosa last Sunday.

    John J. Leyes, 71, of 125 E. 8th St., died at 1: 40 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Hospital after an illness of one month. He was born in St. Clements, Ontario, Canada, Aug 24, 1893 and came to Mishawaka from St. Clements in 1904.

    He married Charlotte Kane in South Bend, Oct. 23, 1923. Surviving are his widow; four sons, William E. Leyes, of Mishawaka, Robert J., and James A. Leyes at home and Joseph C. Leyes, of South Bend; nine grandchildren; two sisters, The Misses Margaret and Monica Leyes, and a brother, Leo Leyes, all of Mishawaka.

    Mr. Leyes was a veteran of World War I. He was retired by the Ball-Band Plant in 1957 after 35 years.

    Friends may call in the Bent & Sprague funeral chapel from 7 until 9 p.m. today and from 2 until 5 and 7 uti8l 9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Church. Very Rev. Curt A. Suelzer, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. The rosary will be recited at 7: 30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral chapel. Mr. Leyes was a member of St. Joseph's Church; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 360, Mishawaka, and the Veterans of World War I Barracks 830.

    The body was at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor, Elmira, where prayers were said Saturday. Requiem mass was solemnized at St. Boniface Church, Maryhill. Rev. V. J. Pickett of Maryhill officiated. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.

    GARDINER, Monica Anne (nee Beaupre) (formerly Young) - Passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at Victoria Place, Kitchener, at the age of 91. Beloved wife the late Scott Young and William Gardiner. Dear mother of Joanne Young of Kitchener, Joyce Young of Toronto and Gary Gardiner of Thunder Bay. Grandmother of Kylie Gardiner, Julia Swaigen and Sarah Lynn Swaigen. Predeceased by her son, Gary Gardiner and sisters, Genevieve Kaufman, Leonard, Claude and Clair Beaupre. In addition to raising her family and keeping the home spotless, Monica was active in the Catholic Women's League and the Parent Teacher Association. She was a terrific cook and could do wonders with her Singer sewing machine. Once the children were grown, she spread her wings and traveled to Europe and the West Coast. We will remember her generous heart and her strong spirit. A memorial mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at St. Clements RC Church, St. Clements. Cremation has taken place.     KAUFMAN, Genevieve G. (nee Beaupre) - Gen died peacefully at Beechwood Manor, her home for the last four years, on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 in her 89th year. She was born in St. Clements, Ontario to Benjamin Beaupre and Anna Linseman. Gen was the beloved wife of Wilfrid (Red) Kaufman (1988). Dearest mother of Elizabeth and Howie Payne, John Kaufman (1994) and Jim and Cathy Kaufman. Sadly missed by daughter-in-law, Nancy (Ken MacAlpine). Dear grandmother of Ted Payne, Rich and Laurraine Payne, Jay and Tristin Kaufman and Amanda and Daniel Kaufman. Great-grandmother (beloved G.G.) of Jessica and Sarah Payne. Survived by her sister, Monica (Porchy) Gardiner. Special "Mumsie" to the Dowling family. Predeceased by her siblings, Clare, Claude, Len and Lucy. She was a longtime member of St. Louis RC Church and the CWL. Hers was a long life, well lived. Gen's clearly expressed wishes were that there be no visitation. She will be cremated and buried with the rest of her family in St. Clements Cemetery with a private family interment at a later date. A Mass to celebrate her life will be said at St. Louis RC Church (Allen St., Waterloo) on Saturday, September 8, 2007 (today) at 11 a.m. with Father Ray Reitzel CR officiating. Memories of Gen can be shared at a reception directly following the Mass in the church hall.     LANCE-CPL, CARL BOPPRE

    Lance-Cpl. Boppre was wounded in action in France on Aug. 28. As further information is not avail- able at present, the extent of his. injuries is not known by his family, who received the telegram today.

    A member of the Essex Scottish Regiment, he enlisted in October, 1941, and went overseas Labor Day weekend of last year. Before joining the army, Lance-Cpl. Boppre worked in his father's grocery store. The 25-year-old soldier was born and educated in Waterloo.
    A brother, Cpl. Gerald Boppre, is also serving in France.

    Cpl. Gerald Bopple, 24, who when last heard from was serving in Holland with the Algonquin Regiment, was slightly wounded on Oct. 10, according to a cable received yesterday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Boppre, Alexandra Ave., Waterloo.

    His brother, Lance-Cpl. Carl, is in a convalescent home in France, recovering from a bullet wound in the heel received on Aug. 28.

    Cpl. Gerald enlisted in Kitchener about three years ago and trained at No. 10 Training Centre here, Listowel and Stratford. He has been overseas slightly over a year. Born in Kitchener, he attended St. Louis School and St. Jerome's College, and was a member of St. Louis R.C. Church. Before enlistment he worked in his father's grocery store.

    Cpl. Boppre, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Boppre, Alexandra Ave.,. Waterloo, received bomb fragment wounds in the face, neck and left thigh when he was wounded in action in Holland on Oct. 10, while fighting with the Algonquin Regiment. The information was received in a secondary wire today.

    SGT. GERALD BOPPRE

    Sgt. Gerald Boppre, 24-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Boppre, 72 Alexandra Ave., Waterloo, was killed in action Nov. 21, his parents have been informed. Serving with the Algonquin Regiment, it is not known where the fatality took place. A letter was received from him yesterday, written from Holland.

    Sgt. Boppre was previously wounded in October, when he sustained bomb fragment wounds in the face, neck and left thigh.

    A brother, Cpl. Carl Boppre, also serving overseas, was wounded in action in France on Aug. 28.

    Born in Waterloo Sgt. Boppre attended St. Louis School, St. Jerome's College and the K-W Collegiate. Prior to enlisting in 1940 he trained at the former No. 10 Military Camp here, at Listowel and Stratford. He went overseas in September, 1943. In civilian life he worked in his father's grocery store.

    Surviving, in addition to his parents and brother Carl, are five sisters and one brother: Mrs. Alex Dietrich of Kitchener, Mrs. Clifford Pickren of North Bay, Stella of Ottawa, Helen, Marcy and Larry at home.

    BOPPRE, Gerald Martin
    Gerald was born on July 13, 1920 in Waterloo, Ontario, to Leo and Emma Boppre. He had two brothers, Carl and James five sisters, Mary, Margaret, Estelle, Helen, and Marcella. Growing up, Gerald helped out at the family grocery store as a clerk, but he also liked playing hockey (goalie) with his friends. Following his brother Carl's footsteps, Gerald enlisted with the Army on December 3, 1941 with the Algonquin Regiment. Sergeant Gerald Boppre was killed during Active Service on November 21, 1944, at 24 years of age. He was awarded the War Medal 1939- 1945 and the 1939-1945 Star. He is buried in the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands. Sergeant Boppre is gratefully remembered today as a "Son of Waterloo" and his picture hangs on the Memorial Wall in City Hall of Waterloo, Ontario.

    It is with sadness we announce the sudden passing of our father Larry. Dad passed away peacefully in his 86th year at St. Mary's Hospital on January 17, 2017. Predeceased by his gracious and loving wife Phyllis (Honey).

    Survived by his five children Debbie (Brian) Lorentz, Donna (Tony) Strauss-Germann, Diane (Larry) Aigner, Tony (Stephanie), James (Claire), 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Leo and Emma (Voisin) and his son-in-law John Strauss (2004).
    Larry was the last surviving member of his family and will be remembered by his friend Ina.

    He is now reunited with his Honey in Heaven.

    George passed away peacefully after a long happy life on Monday, September 3, 2012 at Pinehaven Nursing Home, at age 92. He was born in Maryhill on August 31, 1920.

    Beloved husband of Rose (Roth) for 60 years; cherished father of Kathleen (Scott Ashe) of Cambridge, Verna Keller of Waterloo, Marilyn (Grant Boettger) of St. Clements, and Lori (Michael Wolfe) of Waterloo.

    Loved grandpa of Karen (Shawn), Melani (Tyler), Nicholas, Samantha, Jordan (Sarah), Natasha, Corey and Jesse and great-grandson Layne.

    Dear brother of Bernice Boettger, and brother-in-law of Theresa Keller. Special uncle to many nieces and nephews.

    Predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Irene (Logel) Keller; his brothers, Charles and Joseph; sisters-in-law Bertilla and Elvira and brother-in-law Walter Boettger.

    George was a faithful member of St. Boniface RC Church in Maryhill for many years, and more recently of St. Agnes RC Church.

    He was an Honourary member of Maryhill Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Agnes Holy Name Society.

    Thank you to the Pinehaven Nursing Home staff and Dr. David Rainham for their wonderful care for over 10 years.

    Mass of Christian Burial was said on Sept 8, 2012 at St. Agnes RC Church, 72 Bluevale St. N. Waterloo with Father Piotr Machnacki, S.A.C. as Celebrant.

    Interment followed at Parkview Cemetery.

    Condolences for the family and donations to St. Vincent De Paul Society or Grand River Hospital Foundation.

    Passed away peacefully at Wellington Terrace, Fergus, on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at the age of 86 years.

    Fred Moyer was the beloved husband of June Beggs of Elora. Dear brother of Gerald Moyer. Predeceased by his first wife Marie (Seifried) Moyer (1994) and his parents Joseph and Julia (Logel) Moyer.

    Fred worked as a carpenter for Menno S. Martin Contractor for many years and later worked at the University of Waterloo in the maintenance department.

    The funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Boniface RC Church, 1355 Maryhill Rd., Maryhill. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the mass from 10-11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery. After interment a reception will take place at the Elmira Legion, 11 First St. E., Elmira.

    As expressions of sympathy, donations to Wellington Terrace or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated.
