    Hugh Ariss of Preston Succumbs Week After Falling From Pole


    By Record Correspondent - PRESTON, Dec. 30 - Victim of an accident near Kissuth one week ago today, Hugh "Pete" Ariss of Kress Hill, Preston, passed away this morning at the Galt general hospital. An employee of the rural telephone service, Mr. Ariss fell from a pole and suffered injuries which today proved fatal. In his 44th year, he had been employed by the rural telephone system for two years. Prior to that, he was employed by the Preston Hydro system, and had done some line work at Hespeler. Originally, he was a farmer in the Clearview district. He is survived by his wife, nee Laura Kinzie; two sons, Griffith and Paul, both at home; four brothers, William of Kitchener, Thomas of Saginaw, Mich., and John and Benjamin of Winterbourne; and four sisters, Mrs. Robert Cornell, Upper Darby, Pa.; Mrs. John Stadelbauer, Ingersoll; Mrs. R.J. Downey, Saginaw and Mrs. John Mackie of Kitchener. Private funeral services will be held at his Kress Hill home at two o'clock Friday with public services following at the Preston Gospel Tabernacle at 2: 30. Burial will be in the Doon Cemetery.

    ARISS, Griffin Gordon (Born in Kitchener, Ontario on February 2, 1916) Passed away peacefully at St. Luke's Place, Cambridge, Ontario on Monday, July 4, 2011 at age 95. Predeceased by his first wife Florence Edith (nee Sparks), 1984, and by his second wife Marie (nee Ball), 2006, and by his parents Hugh Ariss, 1936, and Laura (nee Kinzie), 1981. Loving father of Hugh and his wife Ruth Mary of Kitchener and John and his wife Sharon of Burlington. Dearly loved Grandfather of Matthew, Julie, Beth, Krista and Lynn (Dave) and Great-Grandfather of Rebecca and Ethan. Dear brother of Paul Ariss (Carol) of Cambridge. Griffin was a lifelong member of Preston Church of the Nazarene and for many years was church treasurer and on the Board of Trustees. R.C.A.F. World War II Veteran serving at home and overseas for 3 years. A Private Interment has taken place at Doon Cemetery, Kitchener, Ontario. A Memorial Service will be held at King Street Baptist Church, 361 King Street, Cambridge on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 10 a.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated.
