Weber. - Hannah Martin, wife of Amos Weber, was born near St. Jacobs, Ont., Nov. 3, 1851; died July 30, 1929; aged 77 y. 8 m. 27 d. On July 14, she took a stroke which confined her to her bed until she peacefully passed away. There survive a loving husband and nine children: Leah (Mrs. Daniel Cressman), Israel, Elias, Susanna (Mr.s Sidney Martin), Sidney, Mary Ann, Amos, Emanuel, and Hannah (Mr.s Aaron Weber). She also leaves 2 brothers (Jacob and Menno), 3 sisters (Mrs. Sidney Snyder, Mrs. Daniel Weber, and Mrs. Menno Bauman), 55 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Martin's church, in charge of Urias Martin and Jesse Bauman of Waterloo, Ont., and Frank Horst, of Lancaster, Pa. Interment in the cemetery near by.

Blandina Martin was born near Waterloo, Out., May 1, 1858; passed peacefully away on June 9,1937; aged 82 y. 1 m. 9 d. She was united in marriage to Sidney S. Snider of Elmira on Nov. 5, 1876. She is survived by her husband, 4 sons (Menno, David, Milton and Norman), 4 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren, also 1 sister and 2 brothers. In her youth she accepted Christ and became a member of the Mennonite Church, to which she remained a faithful member. She enjoyed fairly good health until three months prior to her death, when she suffered a stroke. During her illness she often expressed a desire to go home to be with her Lord. Funeral services were held from the home and the Elmira Mennonite Church in charge of Oliver D. Snider, assisted by Jonas Snider and Manassah Hallman. Interment in adjoining cemetery

The death took place at his home on the Elmira-Waterloo Highway yesterday of Jacob S. Martin, 74, following an illness of five weeks. Born in Woolwich Township, he was the son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Elias Martin. He attended the Martin Mennonite Church. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Edwin and Alfred, R. R., 1 Waterloo; one daughter, Mrs Clarence Bauman, (Almeda), R.R. 1, Waterloo; one sister, Mrs. Mary Ann Weber, Elmira, and eight grandchildren. The funeral will be held Monday at two o'clock from his residence, R.R. 1, Waterloo, to Martin Mennonite Church where service will be held at 2: 30. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The remains are resting at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until 8: 30 a.m. when the removal will be made to the home.

MARTIN.--Albert Martin was born June 22, 1880; died Sept. 3, 1930; aged 50 y. 2 m. 11 d. On April 15, 1908, he was married to Susanna Musser. To this union were born four children (Edgar, Delton, Vietta, and Mabel). Bro. Martin had a paralytic stroke over a year ago, from which he never fully recovered. He lost his speech was almost entirely. He was able to be up and around until just before he died, which was very sudden, almost before he could be taken in the house. He was a faithful member of the Floradale, Ont., Mennonite Church. The family needs our prayers and sympathy. Bros. Abram Gingerich and Moses Brubacher had charge of the services.

Nelson Martin 65, of 103 Arthur St., Elmira, died Wednesday in the K-W Hospital after a short illness. A native of Peel township. he had lived in Elmira 21 years where he was employed with the Klinck Milling Company. He was a member of Elmira Mennonite Church.

Surviving are his wife the former Mary Ann Westfail three sons, Urias, R.R. 2, West Montrose; Nelson, Jr.. of Heidelberg and Abner at home; three daughters. Lucinda of Kitchener; Mrs. Leonard (Alvina) Woolner, R.R. 3. Kitchener and Mrs. Edwin (Mary Ann) Metzger, R.R. 1. West Montrose. one brother. Amos of Elmira: two sisters. Menno Snider, 81, of 32 William St., died at his home Wednesday, September 23, after a short illness.

Born June 26 in Woolwich township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Snider. He had lived in Elmira since 1922 and was a member of the Elmira Evangelical United Brethren Church.

Surviving are two brothers Milton of RR 1, Elmira and Norman of Elmira. He Was predeceased by his wife, the former Alice Walker in 1955 and one brother.
The body rested at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor until 1 p.m. Saturday when removal was made to Elmira EUB church for services at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. J. W. Siebert. Burial was in Elmira Cemetery.

Peacefully on Friday, September 12, 1997, at the Fairview Mennonite Home, Cambridge, Norman Snider in his 108th year, of Cambridge, formerly of Elmira. Norman was born in Woolwich township, August 13, 1890, son of the late Sydney Snider and Belinda Martin. In 1913 he married Edna Brubacher who predeceased him in 1944. In 1945 he married Ida Cressman and she predeceased him in 1977. Norman was also predeceased by three brothers, Menno, David and Milton. Norman is lovingly remembered by two step-sons, Keith Cressman and Audrey Musselman of Illinois, Howard and Miriam Cressman of Cambridge; four grandsons, Karl and Eric, Dale and Bill and three great-grandsons, Daniel, Mitchellm and Aaron Fondly remembered by his niece, Mrs. Erma L. Snyder of Cambridge and his nephew George Snider of RR1, Elmira. Norman was a member of the Elmira Mennonite Church where for many years he enjoyed serving as a song leader and a Sunday School Teacher In his early years, Norman farmed in Woolwich township, then was employed at Silverwood Creamery in Elmira. He then owned and operated Purity Dairy in Elmira until his retirement. In retirement Norman enjoyed his work of house painting in the area. Friends may call at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira today (Monday) frpm 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. On Tuesday morning ransfer will be made to the Preston Mennonite Church for visitation after 11 a.m. where funeral service will be held at 2: 30 p.m., with Pastor Amzie Brubacher officiating. Mrs. Daniel M. Bowman, passed away at her home at Floradale on Friday, January 5. Deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Menno S. Bauman.

Martin. - Elam S., son of Mrs. Menno S. and the late Menno Martin, was born in Woolwich Twp., Ont., April 18, 1896; died at his home, by his own hand, March 14, 1948; aged 51 y. 10 m. 25 d. On Feb. 20, 1924, he was united in marriage to Elmina Lichty, who survives. Also surviving are 6 children (Vernon, Vera, Lorna, Mabel, Curtis, and Willis, all at home), his aged mother, 2 sisters (Mrs. Israel Bearinger, Elmira, Ont.; and Mrs. Absalom Frey, Linwood, Ont.). In his youth he united with the Mennonite Church, remaining a member until death. Funeral services were conducted at the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church on March 17, with Roy S. Koch in charge, assisted by Jesse B. Martin. Interment was made in the Conestoga Cemetery.

Dear mother of Laverne Martin of RR 2, Wallenstein and Wilfred Martin of RR 2, Alma. Step-mother of Mrs. Jeremiah (Selinda) Martin of St. Clements, Mrs. Ananias (Annie) Bauman of Wallenstein and Mrs. Nelson (Sarah) Brubacher of St. Jacobs. She was predeceased by her first husband, Addison Martin; her second husband, Israel Bearinger; one son, three stepdaughters and one brother. Sister of Mrs. Absolam (Selina) Frey of Linwood; 37 grandchildren and 82 great-grandchildren also survive.

Friends called at the home of her son, Laverne Martin at RR 2, Wallenstein, where funeral service was held on Saturday morning, Nov. 1, thence to the South Peel Mennonite Meeting House for further service and burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Funeral service took place Saturday at the Elmira Mennonite Church for Menno Weber of 7 Snyder Avenue, Elmira. He died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, at the age of 69.

He was born September 16, 1902, in Woolwich Township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Weber.

Surviving are his wife, the former Selinda Martin; one brother, Elam, RR1, Elmira, and two sisters, Susannah Weber and Marion Block, both of Elmira. He was predeceased by one brother.

Rev. Vernon Leis officiated. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.

CRESSMAN.--Nelson, son of Daniel and Leah Cressman, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Nov. 18, 1907; died on his way to a hospital Nov. 25, 1930; aged 23 y. 7 d. He was visiting in Lancaster Co., Pa., and in Maryland, and his death was caused by an automobile accident near Hagerstown, Md. He was married to Mary Ann Weber, Conestoga, Ont., just twelve days before. He united with the Mennonite Church at the age of 18 years and lived a faithful Christian life until his death. He leaves his wife, mother, father, 1 sister, 2 brothers, and many friends. Funeral services were held at Reiffs Church, Md., by Bros. Frank Horst, Moses Horst. Text, John 14: 1,2. The body was taken from the church to Maugansville Station where the remains were sent to his home near St. Jacobs, Ont. On Nov. 29 a short service was conducted at the house by Bro. Ezra Martin and in the Conestoga Riverside Church by Bros. Abraham Gingrich and Urias Martin. Text. Jno. 14: 1,2. Buried in adjoining cemetery. It was one of the largest funerals held for years.

St. Jacobs Bridegroom Killed On Honeymoon

Nelson Cressman, 22, of St. Jacobs, Ont, was killed while on his honeymoon in an automobile collision near Hagerstown. Md. Three other person were injured.

Mr. Cressman and his bride were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Amos Cressman, his brother, Amos Cressman was driving and the car collided with another in which were Edwin Sweeney and Benjamin Edmonds, of Hagerstown, according to police, and they said apparently a third man, who disappeared, was driving the other machine. Cressman's bride was slightly injured.

MRS. CYRUS BOWMAN

The death of Mrs. Cyrus Bowman, north of Elmira, occurred on Nov. 28th at the K-W hospital where she had been a patient for the past two weeks following a thyroid operation. Mrs. Bowman was 33 years of age.

Surviving, are her husband, one son Ervin, four daughters. Minerva, Esther, Elizabeth and Lucinda, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elias Weber of near Yatton, six brothers, Ephriam Weber, Toronto, Milton, sixth of Peel, Aaron, Baden, Eli, Heidelberg, Emmanuel. Yatton and Alvin at home and by five sisters, (Annie) Mrs. Tobias Bowman, near Elmira, (Elvine) Mrs. Abraham Weber, Three Bridges, (Lucinda) Mrs. Nelson Mar-tin, St. Jacobs, (Lydia) who has resided with the late Mrs. Bowman, and Minerva at home.

The funeral was held Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the residence followed by a service in the Old Mennonite church, Elmira. Interment took place in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Edward Martin was in charge of the services.

WEBER, Emanuel Lloyd - We are very sad to announce the death of Emanuel Lloyd Weber, on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at St. Mary's General Hospital, Kitchener. Survived by his sisters, Selina Brubacher, Lydia Freeman, Susanna (Leonard) Freeman, Martha (Mel) Eby and his twin brother, Amos Lorne (Grace); his brother-in-law, Henry (Marcella) Martin and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Amos and Lovina (Martin) Weber; his sister, Irene Martin, and brothers, Clayton and Ivan, and brother-in-law, Gordon Freeman. Lloyd touched everyone he met with warmth and limitless energy. He put his heart into everything he did, and welcomed and enjoyed every challenge he encountered. Lloyd was born in Waterloo County, May 30, 1933. After graduating from Western University in Economics in 1961, Lloyd went into the banking business and handled internal audits. The work was tending to become too routine after three years and, by chance he got to export farm equipment to the West Indies and Europe. Being born and raised on a farm, he was more attuned to this aspect of life than banking. In fact, he had such agricultural empathy that on a trip to Jamaica once, he went into the sugar cane fields and immediately saw some of the problems with equipment and came back to Canada to develop a new machine to speed up the cane harvest. The Jamaicans are still employing this technology, along with some of his innovative irrigation equipment. In 1966, Lloyd took a giant step from exporting tractors and farm equipment to importing eyelashes. Lloyd discovered a new eyelash that was available for the market in North America. He obtained samples and casually handed them out to a few girls at a party one night. Shortly following Lloyd was besieged for more pairs of colored eyelashes. Lloyd would become the chief designer of Cezanne Lashes. He was the front man marketing to New York, Paris, Montreal and other fashion centers. Lloyd would go on to create the ever-popular Whisper Lash. Lloyd's signature credits include his furniture business ventures. Despite some difficult times with start-up, Lloyd's creative dedication would go on to craft simpler and bolder forms of reproductions with a suitably traditional feeling. Lloyd always maintained that it was possible to evoke the past with carefully selected modern furnishings if your budget can't stretch to antiques. Lloyd has now moved on by bequeathing his body to the McMaster University for medical education and research. We wish to thank Dr. Tom Samolczyk, Dr. Glenn Martin for their compassion and kindness. Thanks also to the wonderful caregivers of Cambridge Memorial Hospital and St. Mary's General Hospital "Your family and friends will miss you."

WALLENSTEIN— Suffering from injuries received when kicked by a horse about 18 months ago, Leander Bowman, 20, of Wallenstein passed away at the K.-W. Hospital on Monday morning. The young man had been in fair health until about three months ago when he was taken to the hospital and after several operations failed to respond. Surviving are his parents, Mr, and Mrs. Samuel F. Bowman, two brothes, Edwin of the 3rd of Peel, Noah at home, also five sisters, Mrs. Elias Bauman of Wallenstein, Mrs. Peter Metzger of St. Clements. Mrs. Tilman Brubacher of Winfield, Salina and Minerva at home. The funeral was held on Wednesday morning from his home about one mile west of Wallenstein to the Peel Mennonite Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. A. Lucinda (Cindy) Bolger of Waterloo, born: Sept. 25, 1921, in Yatton, Ont., died: Dec. 6, 2017, of age-related illness

Cindy Martin was only 12 years old when she left home to work as a mother's helper, where the jobs usually entailed assisting a pregnant mother around the time of birth. These were all temporary positions and it would soon be time to move on, a total of 40 different households before something stirred in Cindy, something that made her decide to make more of her life.

Born the eldest of six into an Old Order Mennonite family in Yatton, in rural Waterloo near Elmira, expectations for the child were limited by her upbringing.

Cindy wrote in her memoir how her parents thought she might possibly complete Grade 8 but they knew with certainly she would end up being a "submissive wife" with a whole passel of kids.

Cindy had seen her fair share of Mennonite women on the farm, working hard, raising families. She was having none of it and surprisingly, her parents supported their head strong, determined daughter. Cindy would eventually become a nurse and nursing instructor as well as a bit of a mother hen to dozens of student nurses at what was then called Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital School of Nursing.

Cindy's rise to this position came after years of struggle.

In his eulogy, oldest son Jim Bolger recalled how his mother's early days were shadowed by extreme poverty.

"Many would describe her family as 'poor Nelson Martin's family' often dependent on others for food and money," he said.....

Elvina Woolner (nee Martin) completed her earthly journey after a short battle with COVID-19 at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her husband Leonard, son Jerry, and siblings Cindy, Urias, Maryann, Nelson, and Abner. She will be deeply missed by her three daughters Sharon (Larry), Marlene (Dave), and Gloria (Steve); 7 grandchildren Laura, Kathryn, Jackie, Joanna, Adam, Jessica, and Becky; and 12 great-grandchildren Caleb, Brenna, Halle, Clayton, Yuna, Elora, Ara, Isaiah, Jia, Jadon, Alex, and Jessica's soon-to-be born baby. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Vera and Ann, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Elvina cherished her relationships with her many dear friends and neighbours who appreciated her spirited wit, caring heart, generous hospitality, and memorable meals. Many hours were spent reminiscing about life on the farm and sharing her joy of gardening. Elvina was an avid scrabble player and jumble scrambler and was rarely seen without a book in her hand. Every evening at 7:30 you could find her watching Jeopardy. She enjoyed music and singing and always loved when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren sang her favourite songs like Suppertime, I Come to the Garden Alone, and Sleep My Child. Elvina was an active member at First Mennonite Church in Kitchener and later attended Bethany Community Church in St. Catharines. Her enduring faith in God sustained her through challenging times. She leaves a legacy of faith for us to carry on.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff at Tabor Manor in St. Catharines who loved and cared for Elvina. Thank you for your exceptional care, compassion, and expert knowledge.

Paul Bowman, 52, of Floradale died of a heart attack Monday at his home. He had been in ill health six years.

Born in Floradale December 4, 1903, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Bow- man. He attended the Floradale Evangelical Brethren Church and was a Sunday school superintendent, teacher and class, leader during the past several years.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ella Arnold whom he married in Grassmere April 16, 1924; one son, Coleman of Elmira; four brothers, Ismael and Owen of Floradale, Daniel A. of Elmira and Elam of Mannheim; three sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Susanna) Wideman, Mrs. John (Leah) Grosz and Mrs. Urias (Sarah) Brubaker of Elmira, and one grandson. The funeral was conducted at the Floradale Evangelical United Brethren Church Thursday at 2:30 p.m., by Rev. A. M. Schlenker. Burial was in the Elmira Cemetery.

The body rested at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor, Elmira, until Thursday at 1 p.m., when removal was made to the church.

MRS. HERBERT WIDEMAN

Mrs. Herbert Wideman, 52, formerly of Floradale, died Monday February 23, at 44 Church St., Elmira, after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Wideman, the former Susannah Bowman, was born in Floradale May 20, 1906. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel M. Bowman. Mrs. Wideman was a member of St. Jacobs Mennonite Church.

Surviving are her husband, a son, Jimmie of Elmira; two sisters Mrs. John Grosz, RR 3, Elmira; Mrs. Urias Brubacher, four brothers, Ismael and Owen, both of Floradale; Daniel of Elmira, Elam of Mannheim and two grand-daughters One brother, Paul, predeceased her in 1956.

The body was at the Dreising [sic] Funeral Parlor, Elmira, until Thursday morning at 11 a. m. When removal was made to St. Jacobs Mennonite Church for memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Burial was in St. Jacobs Mennonite Cemetery. Rev. Raymond Kramer officiated.

Husband of the former Gertie Schleuter; father of Albert of Cambridge, Theodore (Ted), Daniel, Roy, all of Kitchener and Lloyd of Route 2, Petersburg (Mannheim); brother of Ismael of Floradale, Dan A. of Elmira, Leah (Mrs. John Grosz), Sarah (Mrs. Urias Brubacher), both of Elmira; also surviving are 12 grandchildren; he was predeceased by his parents, Selina and Daniel M. Rested at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home until Friday when removal was made to St. James' Lutheran Church, Mannheim for funeral services at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Richard Holme officiated. Interment in the church cemetery.

Sarah was the last surviving member of her family having been predeceased by her parents, Daniel M. Floradale Farmer Killed By Bolt of Lightning

STRUCK WHILE CROSSING OPEN FIELD AFTER DELIVERING TELEPHONE MESSAGE TO NEIGHBOR

Walter W. Bauman, Floradale farmer, aged 32 years, was struck by a bolt of Lightning and instantly killed on Thursday night while crossing an open field after delivering a telephone message to a neighbor who did not have a telephone. It was after he had delivered the message a severe electric storm broke suddenly and he was caught out in the bad weather.

The body was found when a search was instigated by his wife, who woke up about three o'clock and finding her husband had not returned, she called neighbors who formed a search party. The deceased was found lying face down, one hand in his pocket and the other clutching his raincoat. The back of his cap was burned and one overall leg was tattered. Mrs. Bauman did not feel uneasy after her husband went on the errand and went off to bed. It was when she woke up at three o'clock and discovered he had not returned she thought something was wrong.

Phoning Mahlon Snider, a neighbour, it was not long before the party found the body. Walter Bauman was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Bauman and a member of the Evangelical Church and also an active member of the Sunday School. He is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn Bowman, also four small sons, Clare, Kenneth, David and James. Two brothers survive, Edward and Earle, of Floradale. Funeral services were held at the home and the Evangelical Church, thence to the Union Cemetery, Elmira, for interment. The funeral was attended by a large number of relatives and friend. The body rested at Dreisinger's Funeral Chapel following the accident.

Earl was a member of the Holstein Association of Canada for 61 years and received the Master Breeder Shield from the association, the highest award bestowed in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Holstein Breed. Over the years, holsteins from his Floraholme Farm at Floradale were exported to over 30 countries. Earl was an innovator in many agricultural projects including the Waterloo County Stockyards, of which he was one of the original founders (now the Ontario Livestock Exchange and St. Jacobs Farmers Market.)-

Alma Man, 43 Fatally Injured In 2-Car Crash

Vernon Martin, 43, of Alma, died Dec. 31 in K-W Hospital of injuries received in a two-car crash near Elora the day before. Mr. Martin's car was in collision with another vehicle driven by Harold Drimmie of Elora. Mr. Martin was taken first to hospital in Fergus. He was later transferred to the K-W Hospital where he died following an operation. He was the son of Mrs. Elam Martin and the late Mr. Martin, RR 1, Waterloo. He was born in Woolwich Township and was a member of Floradale Mennonite Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Eileen Gingrich; four sons, Kenneth 11, Frederick 9, Brian 8, and Rodney 4, and one daughter, Kristine 12; two brothers, Curtis of St. Jacobs and Willis of Kitchener; three sisters, Mrs. Willis (Vera) weber of Guernsey, Sask., Mrs. Floyd (Lorna) Shantz of Seaforth and Mrs. Mabel Snyder, RR 1, Waterloo. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Jacobs Mennonite Church, 1308 King St. N., St. Jacobs. A private family interment in St. Jacobs Mennonite Cemetery will take place prior to the service.
