"Christian Bergey was born in Pennsylvania on June 10, 1846; died at the home of his son Abram, in Kent Co., Ont., Jan. 1, 1927; aged 80 y. 6 m. 21 d. He spent the early years of his life in Waterloo Co., Ont. In 1869 he was married to Barbara Getz. This union was blessed with twelve children, 6 sons and 6 daughters. Soon after his marriage he moved to Elgin Co., Ont., and then a few years later to Kent, Co., Ont., where he resided the greater part of his life. He had a name for thrift, industry and honesty in the community in which he lived. He united with the Mennonite Church in early manhood and took an active interest in the work of the Church, being Superintendent of the Mosa S. S. for a number of years. He was zealous in the training of his family. His wife predeceased him seventeen years ago. He spent the latter years of his life with his youngest daughter, Mrs. Herbert Eby at Listowel, Ont., then later at Hanover, Ont. About three months before his death he came back to reside with his oldest son, Abram, on the old homestead. He seemed to be back again amongst the old scenes and associations but it was not for long. The day before Christmas he fell and broke his leg and early on New Year,s morning his spirit took flight. He leaves to mourn his departure five sons,-- Abram, Norman, Nathaniel, Frank, and John-- and three daughters--Mrs. James Goodbrand, Mrs. Wilkie Taylor, and Mrs. Herbert Eby. His wife, one son, and three daughters preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the residence of his son, Abram, on Jan. 4, 1927. Bro. S. F. Coffman of Vineland, Ont., preached the funeral sermon from II Tim. 4:7, 8. He was assisted by Pastor Windus of the local Baptist Church. Interment in the Purcell cemetery" By a son.

Henry Koch of St. Jacobs, Waterloo Co., Ont., on Jan. 31, 1900. To this union were born 6 children. Three sons have passed away. After several months of illness of diabetes she was taken to the Berlin Hospital Saturday and died the following day. She leaves to mourn her early departure a sorrowing husband, 3 children-John Henry, Lizzie May and Joanna Lauretta-father, 5 brothers and 3 sisters, besides many relatives and friends. Her mother died three years ago. She confessed Christ 14 years ago in a series of meetings conducted by Bro. S. F. Coffman in the Mora school house. She was soon after baptized in the Mennonite Church, to which she faithfully adhered till the close of life. An impressive service was held Feb. 19, 1913, in connection with which a memorial service was held for her son Nathaniel, who died but six days before and on account of the nature of the disease of which he died the funeral was strictly private. The services at the home were conducted by Bro. Moses Bowman and in the Berlin Mennonite Church in the German language by Bro. Enoch Bauman. Text, II Cor. 5: 1, and in the English language by Bro. Moses Bowman and Bro. S. F. Coffman. Text, Jno. 1: 29. Her warfare is accomplished and the victory is won; she is now sweetly resting from her labors and her works do follow her. This is a mysterious providence, yet in paths of darkness where we cannot see, we can trust. "What I do thou knowest not now, but thou shalt know hereafter." "Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life."
"After the toil and struggle,
There cometh a day of rest;
After the weary conflict,
Peace on the Savior's breast."

Beatrice Hedegaard 1913-2004
It is with great sadness, yet gentle relief, that we announce the passing of our mother, Beatrice Verdella Hedegaard, at Fort Macleod on Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at the age of 91 years.Bea struggled to maintain her dignity and cheerfulness through her long illness. Her strong faith helped her during this difficult time.Beatrice was born on March 26, 1913, in New Dundee, Ont., to Isaac and Eliza Ann Spreeman, the youngest of nine children. Her family moved to Drumheller when she was five years old.Throughout her teenage years, she was active in the Salvation Army. She attended Mountain View Bible College in Didsbury, and in anticipation of serving as a missionary in Nigeria, she completed her nurses training in Toronto.Due to a serious illness, she altered her plans. Bea returned to Alberta and became a Ministering Sister in the Missionary Church. She continued working with the church and nursing. She felt very privileged to work at the former Buelah Home in Edmonton, for unmarried mothers.Beatrice met and married Christian Hedegaard, a minister, in 1943. Together they served in churches at Bingley, Mountain View and James River. They spent a year in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, followed by a year in Didsbury, where Bea nursed at the hospital.In 1956 they moved to minister in Denmark, Chris' native land. They returned to Canada in 1961 and served as pastors in Athabasca and Mountain View. After they retired from the ministry, they moved to Red Deer where Bea continued to nurse for the next 10 years.Bea led a colourful, busy life. She was involved with the WCTU, PTA and Women's Missionary Society. She was a loving wife and mother, a doting grandma and a good friend. She was an excellent nurse and a vibrant public speaker. There are many happy memories.Bea was predeceased by Chris in 1988. She leaves to remember her, their son John and his wife Sarah of Orlando, Florida; their daughter Linda Ellis and her husband Jack of Fort Macleod; granddaughter Terrah Lindsay and husband Don of Grande Prairie; granddaughter Trudi Mason and her husband Adam of Lethbridge; and grandson Tyler Ellis and Christine of Fort Macleod. She also leaves five great grandchildren: Kianna, Kiera, David, Eli and Isaiah.A memorial service to celebrate Bea's life will be held at the CrossRoads Missionary Church, Red Deer on Friday, Nov. 26, 2004.If friends desire, memorial donations may be made in Bea's memory to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the CNIB.Eden's Funeral Home, Fort Macleod (403-553-3772) and Wilson's Funeral Chapel (403-782-3666) assisting the family.
