Historic C.1900 slant-top desk crafted by Waterloo County cabinetmaker Christian O. Gerber (1845-1928, Wellesley Ontario). Refer to Michael Bird's "A Splendid Harvest - Germanic Folk and Decorative Arts in Canada" (1981: p.115, fig. 83). An outstanding example. Pine, grain-painted surface simulating figured maple, cross-banding, and paneling, full-round pilasters ebonized with floral highlights. Said to be the 'the nicest known' example. Condition: Excellent. Untouched original surface. Desk writing surface felt deteriorated. 42.5" w x 21.5" d x 57" h.

A resident of Ellice Township for the past 27 years, Mrs. Amos Brunk passed away suddenly this morning (Wednesday) at her home, lot 6, con. 12, Ellice Township, in her 57^th year. Born April 5, 1901, at Reading, Minn., she was the former Mary Gerber and was a daughter of the late Joseph Gerber and Magdalena Kropf. She came to Canada in October, 1930. On June 9, 1931, she was married at Poole to Amos Brunk. She was a member of the Poole Amish Mennonite Church. Surviving, besides her husband, are one son, Maurice, of Sebringville; three daughters, Mrs. Harvey (Maureen) Zehr, of Poole; Mary Ann and Irene at home; eight brothers, Peter, Solomon, Aaron and Elmer, of Fairview, Mich.; Joseph, of Sebringville; John, Raymond and Emanuel, of Brunner; five sisters, Mrs. Chris. (Magdalena) Erb, Millbank; Mrs. David (Catherine) Roes, RR 1, Milverton; Mrs. Benjamin (Amanda) Slaubaugh, Garnett, Kan; Mrs. Levi (Annie) Helmuth, Napani, Indiana; Mrs. Samuel (Clara) Weber, McMinnville, Oregon; and four grandchildren. The remains will rest at her home, lot 6, con. 12, Ellice Township, after 4: 00 p.m. Thursday where a short service will be held on Sunday at 1: 30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at Poole Amish Mennonite Church at 2: 00 p.m. Bishop Moses Roth will officiate. Wellesley , Oct. 31 - Seized with a heart attack, Joseph B. Gerber, 71, died suddenly last night at his home in Ellice township. He attended the Amish-Mennonite church west of Poole. Surviving are his wife, the former Mattie Kropf, eight sons, Joseph, John and Emmanuel of Ellice township, Peter, Soloman, Aaron, Raymond and Elmer, all of Michigan, seven daughters, Mrs. Emmanuel Kennel of Bamberg, Mrs. Chris Erb of Millbank, Mrs. Amos Brunk of Ellice, Mrs. David Roes of Mornington, Mrs. Ben Slebough and Mrs. Sam Weaver, both of Michigan and Mrs. Levi Helmuth of Indiana, two brothers, Jacob and Chris Gerber of Millbank and two sisters, Mrs. Soloman Jantzi and Mrs. Menno K. Jantzi, both of Kitchener. Public funeral service will be held Saturday at 9.30 a.m. at his late residence followed by service at the Amish-Mennonite church west of Poole. Internment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Nicholas Nafziger will officiate.

Kipfer.-John G. Kipfer passed away at the home of his son, Ephraim Kipfer, Mornington, Ont., Dec. 16, 1941; aged 72 y. 6 m. 16 d. He had not been enjoying good health for a number of years. On Dec. 7 he suffered a slight stroke from which he passed away nine days later. He was a son of the late John S. and Marie (Gerber) Kipfer. He was born on the third line of Mornington on June 1, 1869, and spent his entire life in this locality. On Oct. 8, 1889, he was married at Kingwood to Catherine Jantzi. He is survived by his wife, 3 sons and 4 daughters: Ephraim, fifth line; Isaac, Milverton; Herman, third line; Lavinia (Mrs. Alvin Kropf), fifth line; Mary Ann (Mrs. Rudy Lichty), north of Poole; Ruby (Mrs. Norman Poole), third line; Irene (Mrs. Percy Schlenter), Linwood. One son (Abe), the eldest of the family, died in 1918. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 1 brother (Solomon, of Tavistock), and 2 sisters (Mrs. Annie Albrecht, of Milverton, and Mary Kipfer, of Poole). The funeral was held from the home of his son Ephraim, where a short service was held by Bro. Christian Brunk, assisted by Bro. Christian Lichty. Further services were held at the Poole Amish Mennonite Church, of which he was a lifelong member, conducted by Bro. Sam Leis in German and Bro. Peter Nafziger in English. Interment in adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Joseph Albricht, 92, died Friday night at the Scott Pavilion, K-W Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Albricht, born in Mornington township, was the former Annie Kipfer and a member of St. John's Lutheran church in Poole. She was predeceased by her husband Sept. 20, 1917. SOLOMON KIPFER

Solomon Kipfer, 84, of Mill Street, Milverton, died Tuesday, October 29^th, at his home after a brief illness.

He was born in the Township of Mornington, November 3^rd, 1878, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Kipfer.

He farmed in the Township of Ellice, retiring 32 years ago.

He moved to Milverton 18 years ago and prior to that had lived in Tavistock.

He was a member of Poole Mennonite Church.

His first wife, the former Nancy Nafziger, predeceased him in 1930.

Surviving is his second wife, the former Catherine Jutzi, whom he married April 26^th, 1932; a son, Lloyd, of R.R. 1, Stratford; three daughters, Mrs. Samuel (Florence) Boshart, of Milverton; Mrs. David (Sylvia) Schwartzentruber, of R.R. 2, Milverton; and Mrs. Menno *Sarah) Steckley, of R.R. 1, Milverton; a sister, Mrs. Annie Albright, of Kitchener; 35 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by three sons, Gordon, Emerson and John; one daughter, Mrs. Jonas (Mary Inoda) Zehr; five brothers, Christian, Abraham, John, Nicholas and Menno, and three sisters, Rachel, Mary and Mrs. David (Magdalena) Schwartzentruber.

His body rested at his late residence until noon on Friday when removal was made to the Poole Mennonite Church for the funeral service at 2:30 p.m.

Rev. Herbert Schultz officiated, assisted by Rev. David Jantzi and Rev. Chris Brunk.

Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery.

The pallbearers, all grandsons, were Glenn Schwartzentruber, Burnell Kipfer, Laverne Kipfer, Stanley Steckley, Roy Zehr and Paul Boshart.

Relatives and friends, attending the funeral, came from Flint in Mich., Kitchener, Stratford, Tavistock, Baden, St. Agatha and the surrounding district.

Stark, grim tragedy entered the home of a prominent farmer of this district when Abraham Kipfer, his 12 year old son, Oliver, and his son-in-law, Irvin Zehr, aged 25, were hurled into eternity at the Lancaster street C. N. R. crossing at Kitchener, the scene of so many fatal accidents in the past few years.

The three had gone to attend the Kitchener Saturday market and thereafter were, it is believed, delivering farm produce for Christmas to private customers when the tragedy occurred. As all three are dead, little information can be gathered as to why the accident occurred.

The car in which they were driving was hit by the passenger train, known locally as the 10.40 flyer, as this train was approaching Kitchener from Toronto. The car was hurled about fifty feet and Mr. Kipfer was apparently instantly killed. His son and son-in-law were rushed to the hospital, but died without regaining consciousness. The three bodies were brought to Becker's funeral parlor here and were later removed to the home of Mr. Kipfer, south of New Hamburg. The three victims of this fatal accident were laid to rest side by side in the 16th line East Zorra Amish-Mennonite cemetery on Wednesday forenoon. Services were held in the church adjoining. This tragic event has cast a gloom over this community and the deepest sympathy goes out to the bereaved family

The late Mr. Kipfer was aged 50 years, 1 month and 21 days. He was born in Mornington Township near Poole, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Kipfer. After his marriage to Veronica Roth he resided for a short time in South Easthope and for the past twenty-five years occupied the farm known as the back Kerr farm on the 2nd concession of South Wilmot, about three miles south of New Hamburg. Besides his bereaved widow he leaves six children, namely, Mrs. Gideon Boshart, of South Easthope, Mrs. Irvin Zehr, widow of one of the accident victims, also of South Easthope and Nurias, Elmer, Mabel and Dorothy at home.

Irvin Zehr was 25 years of age last Friday and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob H. Zehr, who reside near the 16th line East Zorra Church where the victims of this sad accident were laid to rest. The boy, Oliver Gordon Kipfer was aged 12 years, 9 months and 4 days and was the third youngest member of the family.

A church deacon at Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church, Wellesley, for 42 years, Joseph R. Gerber, 83, of the 5^th line of Wellesley Township, died Sunday, March 30, at his home. A native of Wilmot Township, he came to Wellesley Township 58 years ago. Born Feb. 10, 1875, he was a son of the late Christian Gerber and Annie Reschly. His wife, the former Mary Wagler, whom he married on his birthday in 1900 at Wellesley, died October 11, 1955. Wellesley - Daniel B. Gerber, 83, died Sunday at the Wellesley Township home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Brenneman.

A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Gerber, he was born in Wilmot Township. He was a member of Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church and farmed in Wellesley until he retired in 1948.

His wife, the former Catherine Erb, whom he married 1901 in Wellesley, died in 1941.

Surviving are five sons, Samuel of RR 1, Bamberg, John E. of Wellesley, Daniel of Wellesley Township, Christian of RR 1, Wellesley and David of South Easthope Township; five daughters, Mrs. John W. (Mary) Jantzi and Mrs. David (Annie) Jantzi, both of RR 1. Wellesley, Mrs. Daniel (Lena ) Brenneman and Mrs. Ezra (Emma) Brenneman, both of Wellesley Township, and Mrs. Ezra (Catherine) Steckly of RR 1, Bamberg; one brother, Christian of Kingwood, and one sister, Mrs. Daniel S. Erb of Wellesley Township. There are 35 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. One son predeceased him.

The body is at the Ezra Brenneman home where the funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial service will follow in Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Bishop Samuel Roth will officiate.

Solomon R. Gerber, Wellesley, died suddenly at his home Saturday night, February 28^th. Christian R. Gerber of Kingwood died today at Bonnie Brae Nursing Home, Tavistock, on the eve of his 83^rd birthday and eight days after his 56^th wedding anniversary. He had been ill for a long time.

Mr. Gerber, born in Wilmot Township, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Gerber, and farmed in the township until 1947 when he retired to Kingwood. He was a member of Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Katherine Nafziger, whom he married Feb. 15, 1910; three sons, Valentine, Brunner; Lloyd, RR 1, Millbank, and Roy, RR 1, Wellesley; four daughters, Mrs. Allen (Clara) Kuepfer, Millbank; Mrs. Benjamin (Marion) Kuepfer, RR 1, Millbank; Mrs. Onias B. (Emma) Martin, RR 3, Wallenstein, and Mrs. Stanley (Katherine) Schellinger, Sebringville; a sister, Mrs. Daniel S. (Nancy) Erb, Wellesley; 30 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters.

The body will remain at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home, until noon Thursday when removal will be made to Mr. Gerber's home for a family service at 1 p.m. Saturday. This will be followed by a memorial service at Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church. Bishop Samuel Roth will officiate. Burial will be in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Christian Gerber

Christian Z. Gerber of Crosshill died on Monday of last week at his home. Mr. Gerber was 79.

Born in Wellesley Township, May 14, 1890, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Gerber. He farmed in Wellesley Township before retiring to Crosshill in November, 1968.

He was a member of the Maple View Mennonite Church.

One brother and one sister predeceased him.

Surviving, besides his wife, the former Magdalena Lichti whom he married June 7, 1923, in Wellesley Township, are three sons, Ralph and Murray, both of Crosshill, and Roy of RR 1, Millbank; one brother, Daniel of Wellesley; one sister, Mrs. .lames (Lena) Birmingham of Crosshill and eight grandchildren.

At the age of 4 he came with his parents to the States, settling first in Nebraska, but later he moved to Indiana, and has resided around Bremen and Nappanee the greater part of his life. He was united in marriage to Barbara Yoder, at Wilmot, Minn., Feb. 5, 1903. This union was blessed with 3 sons and 4 daughters. He is the first one in this family to enter the eternal home. He leaves his companion, 3 sons (Valentine of Nappanee, Floyd of Syracuse, and Moses of Elkhart), 4 daughters (Mrs. Eli Yoder of Nappanee, Mrs. Roman Slabaugh of Milford, Mrs. Christ Miller of Middlebury, and Katherine at home), 19 grandchildren, 2 brothers (Valentine Gerber, of Conneautville, Pa.; and Moses Gerber of Zurich, Ont.), 3 sisters (Mrs. Mattie Jantzi and Mrs. Rachel Jantzie both of Furgas, Ont.; Mrs. Fannie Erb of Zuirch, Ont.). Quite early in life he chose Christ as his Saviour and united with the Amish Church. Later he transferred his membership to the Mennonite Church, having his church home with the North Main St., congregation in Nappanee, at the time of his decease. Services were held Oct. 2 at the Mennonite Church in Nappanee, conducted by Homer F. North. Burial in the South Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Soloman Schmidt, 85, of Millbank, died Friday, February 14^th at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener.

She was the former Lena Kuepfer and was born in Mornington Township, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John G. Kuepfer.
Surviving are: brothers, Eli, of Millbank; Allan and Benjamin, both of RR 1 Millbank; sisters, Mrs. Aaron (Clara) Ebersol, of Milverton; Mrs. Joseph (Nancy) Steckley, of RR 1 Milverton.

She was predeceased by her husband 17 years ago and by five brothers.

The body was at the family residence in Millbank where the funeral service was held Monday at 1 p.m.

Biship Joseph K. Jantzi officiated.

Burial followed in the Seventh Line Amish Mennonite cemetery in Wellesley Township.

Mrs. Peter (Mattie) Spenler, 71, of Milverton, died Thursday, December 22^nd, at her home. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob S. Zehr, she was born in the Township of Wellesley September 25^th, 1889. She was married to the late Peter Spenler in 1911. They farmed near Poole on the farm now owned by a son, John. Her husband died in 1935. She and her family remained on the farm until 1949 when they moved to Milverton, near the C.N.R. station. She was a member of the Amish Mennonite Church west of Poole. Surviving are two sons, Jacob, of Stratford, and John of Poole; five daughters, Elizabeth, Sarah and Amanda, at home, and Mrs. Lorne (Mary) Schmidt and Mrs. Norman (Madeliene) Gerber, of Millbank; two sisters, Mrs. William (Fannie) Poole, of Poole, and Nancy Zehr, of R.R. 1, Milverton; three brothers, Sam and William Zehr, of Poole, and Chris, K. Zehr, of Milverton, and 14 grandchildren. Three daughters died in infancy. The body rested at her home where the funeral was conducted Saturday at 1: 30 p.m., followed by a service at the Amish Mennonite Church, Poole, at 2: 15. Bishop Moses Nafziger officiated. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers were, Clarence Poole, Mahlon Zehr, Ezra Jantzi, John L. Erb, John Poole and Emanuel Bast (all nephews).

A well-known resident of the district, Chris K. Zehr of Mill Street, Milverton passed away suddenly Thursday evening, September 14, 1972.
He farmed east of Milverton until his retirement in 1954 when he moved to Milverton.
Son of the late Jacob S. Zehr and Leah Kuepfer, he was born in Poole, November 19, 1903.
He was married to Margaret Bender of Newton, Ontario, October 21, 1926 who predeceased December 18, 1949.
He is survived by daughter Mrs. Vera Jantzi, R.R. 2 Milverton, Verna, Mrs. Ezra J. Jantzi, R.R. 1 Milverton, Velma, Mrs. Wilfred J. Erb, R.R. 2 Wellesley and six grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Mrs. Amos Albrecht, Brunner, Ont., a brother William, also of Brunner.
He was predeceased by a son-in-law Joseph Jantzi in 1967; two sisters Mrs. Mattie Spenler and Fanny, Mrs. William Poole; a brother Samuel Zehr and five brothers in infancy.
A family service was held at the Futher Brothers Funeral Home at Wellesley at 1 o'clock followed by a memorial service at the Mornington A.M. Church (West) on Saturday.
Pallbearers were Harvey Zehr, Jacob Spenler, Clarence Poole, Milton Kuepfer, Dan Bender and Delmer Bender.
Burial followed in church cemetery.

Ezra G. Jantzi of RR 1, Milverton died Thursday January 1, at the Stratford General Hospital. He was born in Wilmot Minn., in 1896, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Jantzi. He was a member of the Nafziger Amish Mennonite Church in Poole and had farmed in Ellice Township since 1926. He was deceased by his wife, the former Dorothy Janzti, in 1967. Surviving are three sons, Allan and Ezra J. of R.R. 1, Milverton and Ira of R.R. 2, Wellesley; two daughters, Mrs. Solomon (Ella) Stecky of R.R. 1, Bluevale; Mrs. Albert (Elma) Beisinger of R.R. 4, Listowel; one brother, Aaron of Mio, Mich.; three sisters, Miss Amanda Jantzi, Mrs. Nicholas (Mary) Jantzi, and Mrs. Isaac (Mattie) Roes of Brunner; 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The body rested at the Futher Brothers Funeral Home, Wellesley, where a funeral service was held Sunday, January 4, at 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at the Nafziger Amish Mennonite Church at Poole at 2 p.m. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

We are sorry to report the death of Amanda Kipfer, beloved wife of Mr. Jacob K. [sic?] Kipfer, who passed away at Buffalo General Hospital on Nov. 4^th at the age of 32 years. She had been ill in the hospital for the past three months. The deceased was a daughter of Mrs. Lena Kipfer of New Hamburg and was born at Milverton, the family moving to town after the death of her father.

She was married ten years ago to her now bereaved husband and for the past six years resided at Alden, N. Y. She leaves her husband and two small sons to mourn her early demise. There are also left in bereavement her mother and five sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Lawrence Zehr of Alden, Mrs. Herbert Miller of Lockport, N.Y., Mrs. Henry Ortman, Welland, Ont., Mrs. Ed. MRS. ALVIN KROPF

Of 157 Dawson St., Waterloo, passed away suddenly Tuesday at her home, the former Lavina Kuepfer, dear wife of Alvin Kropf; mother of Ralph, of Route 1, Milverton; Stanley and Eldon, both of Kitchener, Delford of Waterloo, Margaret (Mrs. Albert Henning) of Stratford; sister of Herman of Millbank, Mary (Mrs. Rudy Lichty) of Wellesley, Ruby (Mrs. Norman Poole) of Milverton and Irene (Mrs. Percy Schleuter) of Stratford; also survived by 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; predeceased by three brothers.

Friends may call at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home, 40 Henry St., Wellesley, until noon on Friday when removal will be made to the Poole Mennonite Church for the funeral service at 2:30 p.m.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Rev. Amsey Martin officiating.

Expressions of sympathy may be shown by contributions to the Western Ontario Mennonite Mission Board.

MRS. ALVIN KROPF

Mrs. Alvin Kropf, 72 , of Dawson St., Waterloo, died February 22 at her home.

Born in Mornington Township, October 26, 1899, she was the former Lavina Kipfer, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Kipfer.

She was a member of Poole Mennonite Church.

She is survived by her husband Alvin, four sons, Ralph, R.R. 1, Milverton; Stanley and Eldon of Kitchener and Delford of Waterloo; and one daughter, Mrs. Albert (Margaret) Henning of Stratford; one brother, Herman Kipfer, Millbank; three sisters, Mrs. Rudy (Mary) Lichty, Wellesley; Mrs. Norman (Ruby) Poole, Milverton; Mrs. Percy (Irene) Schleuter, Stratford; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was predceased by three brothers.

The body rested at the Futher Funeral Home Wellesley until Friday when removal was made to Poole Mennonite Church where services were conducted by Rev. Amsey Martin.

Pallbearers were William Kropf, Alfred Kipfer, Arthur Poole and Elmer Roes.

Edial Albrecht, 68, of Wellesley, died Wednesday, July 27, at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. Born Aug. 26, 1898 in Mornington Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Albrecht. He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wellesley, and had been employed with Bisch Construction Co. of Wellesley for the past two years.

Surviving are his wife, the former Lavina Schweitzer, whom he married at Kitchener, May 31, 1924; three sons, Roy of Flint, Mich., Murray and Arthur, both of Wellesley; one brother, Ell of Milverton; three sisters, Mrs. John (Mary) Eydt and Mrs. Emanuel (Dora) Wagner, both of Wellesley, and Mrs. Henry (Emma) Fleischauer of Milverton; and one grandchild. Service was July 30 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wellesley. Rev. Ronald Relscorf officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

BOSHART, Mrs. Pearl (Gideon) On Friday, Feb. 11, 1983, at her residence, 50 Foundry St., Baden, Mrs. Pearl (Kipfer) Boshart, age 78.

She was a member of First Mennonite Church, Kitchener.

Beloved wife of the late Gideon Boshart, who predeceased her October, 1963. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Marcella and her husband Orland Gerber; four grandchildren, Linda and her husband Michael Fewkes, Bruce and his wife Debra, and Paul, all of Baden and Sandra and her husband Anthony Kirk of New Hamburg; two great grandchildren, Jennifer and Jason Fewkes. Dear sister of Viola (Mrs. Alvin Brenneman) of New Hamburg, Mabel (Mrs. Elam Roth) of Tavistock and Dorothy (Mrs. Harry Snyder) of R.R. 2, New Hamburg.

She was predeceased by her parents, the late Abraham G. Kipfer and the former Veronica Roth; one son, Delford, February 1958; three brothers, Nurias, Elmer and Oliver.

Visitation was held at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg Chapel, 291 Huron St., until noon today when removal was made to First Mennonite Church for service at 3 p.m., with Rev. Glenn Brubacher officiating. Interment in the church cemetery.

KIPFER, NURIAS

On Monday, August 15, 1977, at St. Mary's Hospital, due to a heart attack, Nurias Kipfer, age 67 years, of Route 4, Kitchener.

Elmer S. Kipfer of 31 Fourth Ave. died suddenly at his home Saturday, after a heart attack. He was 57. He had been employed in the heating division at Nelco Ltd. for the past five years and formerly was employed at the Hydro City Shoe Co. He was a member of First Mennonite Church. Born in Wilmot Township near New Hamburg, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Kipfer. He had lived in the Twin City area all his life and in Kitchener for the past 20 years. Three Meet Death in Level Crossing Accident

Abraham Kipfer, His Son and Son-In-Law Killed At Kitchener

Stark, grim tragedy entered the home of a prominent farmer of this district when Abraham Kipfer, his 12 year old son, Oliver, and his son-in-law, Irvin Zehr, aged 25, were hurled into eternity at the Lancaster street C. N. R. crossing at Kitchener, the scene of so many fatal accidents in the past few years.

The three had gone to attend the Kitchener Saturday market and thereafter were, it is believed, delivering farm produce for Christmas to private customers when the tragedy occurred. As all three are dead, little information can be gathered as to why the accident occurred.

The car in which they were driving was hit by the passenger train, known locally as the 10.40 flyer, as this train was approaching Kitchener from Toronto. The car was hurled about fifty feet and Mr. Kipfer was apparently instantly killed. His son and son-in-law were rushed to the hospital, but died without regaining consciousness. The three bodies were brought to Becker's funeral parlor here and were later removed to the home of Mr. Kipfer, south of New Hamburg. The three victims of this fatal accident were laid to rest side by side in the 16th line East Zorra Amish-Mennonite cemetery on Wednesday forenoon. Services were held in the church adjoining. This tragic event has cast a gloom over this community and the deepest sympathy goes out to the bereaved family

The late Mr. Kipfer was aged 50 years, 1 month and 21 days. He was born in Mornington Township near Poole, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Kipfer. After his marriage to Veronica Roth he resided for a short time in South Easthope and for the past twenty-five years occupied the farm known as the back Kerr farm on the 2nd concession of South Wilmot, about three miles south of New Hamburg. Besides his bereaved widow he leaves six children, namely, Mrs. Gideon Boshart, of South Easthope, Mrs. Irvin Zehr, widow of one of the accident victims, also of South Easthope and Nurias, Elmer, Mabel and Dorothy at home.

Irvin Zehr was 25 years of age last Friday and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob H. Zehr, who reside near the 16th line East Zorra Church where the victims of this sad accident were laid to rest. The boy, Oliver Gordon Kipfer was aged 12 years, 9 months and 4 days and was the third youngest member of the family.

Samuel Gerber, 68, of Wellesley, died Thursday, February 14 at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener.

Born in Wellesley Township, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Gerber.

He farmed in Wellesley Township, retiring in 1969, and was a member of the Maple View Mennonite Church.

He is survived by his wife, the former Edna Bast; two daughters, Mrs. Hans (Florence) Rasmussin of Milverton, Mrs. Arnold (Kathleen) Steckly, R.R. 1 Bluevale; four brothers, John, Daniel and Chris, all of Wellesley and David of New Hamburg; five sisters, Mrs. John W. (Mary) Jantzi of Millbank, Mrs. David W. (Annie Jantzi, Mrs. Daniel (Lena) Brenneman, both of R.R. 1 Wellesley, Mrs. Ezra (Emma) Steckly, and Mrs. Ezra (Katie) Steckly both of Wellesley; and four grandchildren.

The body rested at the Futher funeral home, Wellesley, until noon Saturday when removal was made to the Maple View Mennonite Church for the service at 2: 30 p.m. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Gerber. He was employed at the New Hamburg Felt Boot Company, retiring two years ago. He was also a member of the Mapleview Mennonite Church.

Beloved father of Harold of Route 1, Wellesley, Mildred (Mrs. Kenneth Lichti), of Tavistock, Elsie (Mrs. Harold Lichti) of Route 1, New Hamburg; brother of Daniel and Christ, both of Wellesley, David of New Hamburg, Annie (Mrs. David Jantzi) and Lena (Mrs. Daniel Brenneman) both of Route 1, Wellesley, Emma (Mrs. Ezra Brenneman) and Katie (Mrs. Ezra Steckley), both of Wellesley; survived by 14 grandchildren; predeceased by his wife, the former Elizabeth Bast in 1974, also by one son, Lloyd, and one brother and one sister.

Predeceased by one grandchild Peter Steckly; brothers, Samuel, Daniel, John, Christian, David and Amos in infancy; sisters, Mary, Mrs John Jantzi, Annie, Mrs. David Jantzi, Annie, Mrs David Jantzi, Lena, Mrs Dan Brenneman, and Emma, Mrs Ezra Brenneman.

Visitation was at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home. On Wednesday a family service was held at the funeral home. Followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bishop Arthur Gerber officiated.
In lieu of flowers, donations were made to the AMA Belize Missions and St. Mary's General Hospital.

Beloved mother of Willis of Milverton, Ivan and his wife Anna Mae of Millbank, Irene Kuepfer of Wellesley, Nelson and his wife Elaine of Kingwood, Merrill and her husband Laverne Zehr of Crosshill, Verna and her husband Nelson Jantzi of Brunner. Grandmother of 25 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was predeceased by grandsons Brian and Russel, one stillborn granddaughter, her great-granddaughter Angela, great-great-grandson Kylen, her daughter-in-law Kathryn on December 28, 2009. Survived by her sister Katie Chellenberger of Sebringville, her brother Roy (Arlene) Gerber of Wellesley and predeceased by her sisters and brothers Clara Kuepfer, Emma Martin, Valentine Gerber, Lloyd Gerber and brothers and sisters-in-law Allen Kuepfer, Onias Martin, Stan Chellenberger, Clara Gerber, Frieda Gerber and Erma Gerber. Mr. Gerber was born in Wellesley township 73 years ago, a son of the late Christian Gerber and the late Catherine Nafziger. He was an active member of the Crosshill Mennonite Church, where he served as a trustee and Sunday school teacher. Lloyd farmed in Wellesley township and was also employed with Waterloo County Board of Education, retiring in 1964.

Dear husband of the former Frieda Lichty, whom he married on June 27, 1942. Dear father of Dianne and her husband David Guider of Woodstock, Lyle and his wife Linda Gerber of Wellesley, Delores and her husband Murray McMillan of Orono, Janice and her husband, Bob Belec of Kitchener and Lynne Gerber of Wellesley. Lovingly remembered by his eight grandchildren, Jeff and Shawn Gerber, Jonathan and Jennifer Guider, Michael and Emily McMillan and Benjamin and Andrew Belec. ERB, Elmer G. - "Well done, my good and faithful servant, come and share in your Master's joy." Mat-thew 25: 21 Our dear loving father, Elmer G. Erb, responded to God's call to share in the eternal blessings of the Lord on Sunday, April 2, 2006 at 12: 25 p.m. joining his late beloved wife Vera Bast, (April 30, 1999) whom he married on October 5, 1938. Elmer was born in Wellesley township on February 2, 1911, the first born of the late Daniel S. Erb and the late Nancy Gerber. After a short time in business as co-owner of Millbank Flour, Feed and Seed, Elmer and Vera farmed in Wellesley Township for twenty-five years. Elmer was a member of Crosshill Mennonite Church and actively contributed to church life as a Sunday school teacher and adult superintendent. He dedicated forty years to the work of A.M Fire & Storm Aid Union, first as a Director later in the position of Secretary Treasurer. Elmer and Vera retired to Wellesley and together spent their last years at Nithview Retirement and Nursing Home, New Hamburg. Elmer is survived by his children, Earl and wife Eva Erb, RR2, Wellesley, Reta and husband Harold Gingerich, Baden, Beatrice and husband James Bender, Ailsa Craig, Arlene and husband Stephen Hoke, New Hamburg and MaryAnn Erb Schlegel, Waterloo. Elmer will be lovingly remembered by his 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is the dear brother of Laura Nafziger, Allan and Norma Erb and sisters-in-law, Frieda Erb and Katherine Erb. Elmer is predeceased by a grandson, Justin Peter Schlegel, 1981; four brothers, John, Cornelius, Norman and Daniel, sisters-in-law, Emma Erb, Amanda Erb, Doris Erb Kropf and brother-in-law, Harvey Nafziger.
