Betzner - February 25th in Waterloo Co., Ontario, of heart disease, Sister Eliza widow of Bro. Samuel Betzner, dec,d, aged 71 years, 8 mos. and 21 days. She was buried in Cressman's grave-yard near Breslau. She was a charitable sister, and was followed to the grave by a large number of friends, showing their high esteem for the departed one. Services in German by J. Woolner, and in English by David Sherk.

Betzner - On the 2d of April, 1899, near Breslau, Waterloo Co., Ont., Bro. Jacob S. Betzner, aged 59 years, 7 months and 23 days. Bro. Betzner had been for some time afflicted with dropsy, and by the advice of his physician he went to the Berlin Waterloo hospital for treatment, from which he returned home several weeks later greatly improved. He, however, believed that the end would come suddenly, and arranged his temporal affairs accordingly, nor did he neglect his spiritual interests, for he said to his daughter some time before his death that he was ready to go, and had no fears for the future. He retired on the evening of Easter Sunday, apparently as well as usual. Next morning his daughter, in passing his room, found him in a partly recumbent position, dead. He had evidently passed quietly away a number of hours before. The remains were laid to rest in the Cressman cemetery, Breslau, beside the remains of his wife who passed away a few years ago. Funeral services by D. B. Sherk in English from Psa. 127: 2, last clause, and by Noah Stauffer in German. A large concourse of relatives and friends assembled to pay their last tribute of love to the departed brother. Two daughters remain to mourn the loss of an affectionate father.

Weber - Sister Minnie, wife of Jeremiah B. Weber, and daughter of the late Jacob Betzner, was born Dec. 15, 1871, near Breslau, Ont.; died of sarcoma, at her home near Cressman, Sask., March 20, 1909; aged 37 y. 3 m. 9 d. She was sick the greater part of a year with great suffering, which at times caused her to cry out loud to God for help, for grace, and if it is His will for deliverance. She longed much to go and be with her Savior. She leaves a loving husband and one child. Her sister, Eliza, nurse, from La Junta, Colo., came to her bedside several months ago and ministered much comfort and consolation. Funeral services were conducted by the brethren, Isaiah Rosenberger and E. S. Hallman. Text, Rev. 21: 4; 7: 9. Laid to rest in the Sharon Mennonite Cemetery.

CLEMENS, Stanley Betzner It is with profound sadness that the family of Stanley Betzner Clemens announces his passing at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, ON on Monday, February 22, 2010 in his 92nd year. He is survived by his beloved wife Connie; his daughter Lynn Howald (Ron), Kitchener; his son Randy (Linda), Thunder Bay; his granddaughter Connie Bender (Marc), Guelph; his grandson Ben Howald, Kitchener; and his great-grand-daughter Abigail Bender, Guelph. He was predeceased by his first wife Anne McConnel (1984). He will be sadly missed by his niece Elaine Lehman (Harry), Kitchener; his nephew Terry Reist (Carolyn), Cambridge and his great-nephew Michael Reist (Debbie), Gagetown, N.B. and their two sons. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Bunty Ferrans and nephew Robert Ferrans (May), Scotland. He was the son of Norman and Catherine Clemens (deceased) and brother of Floris Reist and Miner Clemens (both deceased). Stan was born in Breslau, Ontario, attended Kossuth Public School and Riverbank Continuation School. Prior to joining the Armed Forces, Stan was in the Militia in Galt, worked at Mammie's Bread for a total of 10 years (before and after WWII). He spent 42 years as a Life Insurance Agent for a number of different Insurance Companies, ending with Standard Life at the age of 80 when he retired. Stan joined the Royal Canadian Regiment in London, Ontario in 1941, training in different areas of Canada, England and Scotland before being shipped out to North Africa and from there landed in Sicily, July 10, 1943 with the First Division. He proceeded to fight in Italy (where he also met the Pope) but was taken out of combat at Ortona in 1944. He continued with the troops ending up in Amsterdam, Holland. While in Holland he was fortunate enough along with several other Canadians to have tea with Queen Wilhelmina. He returned to Canada in January 1946. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, St. Mary's Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
