At St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, on Thursday, June 12, 1986, in her 84th year, the former Wendelina Kittel, of 32 Tupper Court, Kitchener. A member of St. Anthony Daniel RC Church and former owner and operator of the Young Street Grocery, Waterloo. Daughter of the late Wendel Kittel and Isabella Golden; wife of the late Christian Kempel; mother of Joseph and his wife Betty, C. James, William and his wife Audrey, Thomas and his wife Eileen, Raymond and his wife Selma, Anita and her husband Ken Hecktus and Margaret (Peggy), all of Kitchener, Robert and his wife Mari, John and his wife Brenda and Sister Joyce, SSND of Notre Dame College, all of Waterloo, Ronald and his wife Brenda of Elmira and Elizabeth and her husband Neil Kennedy of Cambridge (P). Also survived by 28 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Predeceased by three sons, Francis, Claude and Gordon; one sister, Marion Kittel and one grandson, Bri-an Hecktus. Visitation at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home and Chapel, 51 Benton at Church St., after 7 p.m. tonight, continuing until 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, when prayers will be offered from the funeral home chapel, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony Daniel RC Church at 11 a.m. Interment Woodland cemetery.

Suddenly, at her home, on Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, in her 69th year. Loving wife of Neil. Dearest mother to her three daughters, Elaine, Teresa and Linda Kennedy, all of Cambridge. Grandma will be sadly missed by her granddaughter, Sara. Betty is survived by her siblings, Joseph (Betty) Kempel, C. James Kempel, William (Audrey) Kempel, Anita (Ken) Hecktus, Tom Kempel, Bob (Marg) Kempel, Ron (Brenda) Kempel, Ray (Selma) !Compel, Sister Joyce Kempel, SSND, Margaret (Peggy) Kempel and John (Brenda) Kempel. Predeceased by her parents, Christian and Wendelina Kempel; brothers, Gordon, Claude and Francis. She will be sadly missed by her many relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge, today (Saturday) from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 12, 1998 at 10 a.m. at St. Clement's RC Church, 745 Duke St. Cambridge. Interment in Park Lawn Cemetery, Cambridge.

Sister Joyce (formerly Sister Christiana) SSND Died at Notre Dame Convent, Waterdown Ontario on Friday, February 26, 2010 at the age of 68 in her 47th year as a School Sister of Notre Dame. Predeceased by her parents Christian and Wendelina (Kittel) Kempel, her brothers Francis, Claude, Gordon, William, Robert, Joseph and her sister Elizabeth Kennedy. Lovingly remembered by the members of her religious community, her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. Sister Joyce started her teaching career in the junior grades at St. Agatha School, St. Agatha. Then, she continued in the primary grades in St. Mary's, Kitchener, St. James, Toronto, St. Anthony, St. Catharines and Sacred Heart, Mildmay. From 1981-1989 Sister Joyce was Bursar and Associate Dean at Notre Dame College, Waterloo. On her return to the classroom Sister Joyce engaged her pupils in headline projects. At St. Brigid's School, Hamilton her Grade 1 class built Morrowville, a miniature city named in honour of Hamilton Mayor Bob Morrow. At Holy Family School, Hamilton her Grade 2 classes were encouraged to read numerous books. The highest yearly total was 25,000. With her caring and challenging manner as a teacher, Sister Joyce sought to instill self-confidence within her pupils. Visitors will be received at Notre Dame Convent, Waterdown on Monday, March 1 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held on Monday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, March 2 at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Notre Dame Convent Cemetery.
