    • AWENDER, Andrew Philip - Passed away peacefully, at Freeport Health Centre of the Grand River Hospital, on May 14, 2006. Beloved husband of Catherine Barbara (Koch) for 65 years. Dear father of Michael and his wife Judi of Phoenix, Arizona, Richard and his wife Joan of Newfoundland and Daniel and his wife Audrey of Waterloo. Beloved grandfather of Todd and Darren Awender, Cheri Bornais and her husband Darren, Christopher Awender and his wife Christine and Sandi Awender. Precious great-granddaughters, Rayne Awender-Young, Grace and Sophie Bornais. Also survived by one sister, Betty Mayer of Tillsonburg and one brother, Frank of Creemore. Lovingly remembered by Dianne and Len Musselman. Predeceased by his parents, Johan and Johanna and his brother, John. Andrew proudly joined the Royal Canadian Regiment in June 1940 where he attained the rank of Company Sergeant Major. He then became part of the Infantry Instructional Training Staff at Camp Borden, Ontario. He was severely wounded in action with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry in Europe. He then spent 32 years with Canada Post as L.C. and Postal Official. In retirement, Andrew spent many gratifying years at the family cottage in Grand Bend with his wife and grown children, where golf was his main pastime. He was a proud life long member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 50 Kitchener and a member of St. Mary's RC Church. At Andrew's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's RC Church, 56 Duke St. W., Kitchener, on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 10 a.m. Reception to follow at the Henry Walser Funeral Home (519-749-8467). As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to St. Mary's Hospital, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
