    • FERGUSON, ANGUS HAROLD

Peacefully and surrounded by his family, on March 31, 2003, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. He leaves his wife of sixty-one years, Alice Bailey and five children: Ian (Connie) of Waterloo; Sharon (Horst) of Guelph; Grant (Karen) of Cambridge; and Janet Babcock of Toronto; eleven grandchildren; and one brother, Ian (Millie) of London. Predeceased by his parents and brother, Donald (1975). Angus was born in Killean, Puslinch Township, on March 13, 1918, the eldest of three sons, to Marshall Ferguson and Nellie Amy. He attended Killean Public School, Galt Collegiate Institute and farmed until 1942 when, for health reasons, he moved to Toronto. In 1949, he returned to Galt and shortly thereafter, became operator, then owner, of the Credit Bureau of Galt. He continued in business until the 1980's, when he sold to his son, Hugh. During those years, he served as Director of the Associated Credit Bureaus of Ontario, then Canadian and U. S. Associations and later as President of the Ontario and Canadian Associations. He served on several committees of the city of Galt and Cambridge over the years. He was a member of the Galt Lions Club since 1952 and was President and Director as well as Bulletin Editor for over twenty years. His main interest in the Lions Club was eyesight conservation, for which he received the Helen Keller Award and was the first in the Galt Club to be honoured with the Melvin Jones Award. He was also involved in the Heart and Stroke Foundation from its beginning in the Galt Unit and was its first Treasurer. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Galt for over fifty years and served on the Board of Managers as secretary for seventeen years, was a longtime elder and worked on many committees. He was an ardent fisherman and hunter and always enjoyed being able to say he had "dipped his line in most areas of Canada from coast to coast. " His other interest was the clans and Scottish Societies of Canada and North America, serving twenty-five years as Regional Director of Ontario and President of Clan Ferguson of Canada and North America. He was a participant in the multicultural movement for Cambridge from the inception. Ill health followed him through his lifetime. He was a very early recipient of open heart surgery in 1959. He had a deep interest in the progress made in this area and felt it a great honour to be asked to be a part of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, when it began a chapter in this area. Coutts Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 96 St. Andrews St. in Cambridge. Funeral at Knox Presbyterian Church, Queen's Square in Cambridge on Fri., Apr. 4 at 2: 30. Rev. Wayne Dawes officiated. Interment Killean Cemetery.
