    • HEY, Benjamin Kenneth (1918-2009) - It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved dad, granddad and great-granddad, while visiting his daughter, Barbara, in Lima, Peru. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine, in 2000. Ben is survived by his brother, Alfred; his daughters, Barbara (Alex) Dmitrienko and Donna (Gary) Dmitrienko; grandsons, Iain (Iwona) and Bruce (Becky) Dmitrienko; granddaughters, Klaudia (Todd) (Dmitrienko) and Catherine (Mark) Dmitrienko; and five beautiful great-grandchildren, Natalia, David, Benjamin, Brody and Anya. Ben served his country proudly in the forestry corps and the air force in the Second World War and was the last surviving member of his Lancaster flight crew. We remember him, not only as a caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, but also as a fiercely determined and independent individual with a sharp sense of humour, an intense curiosity about the world, and a lifelong commitment to learning that has inspired us all. Much loved, he is sadly missed. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering is being planned for this spring. Details will be announced at a later date.
