  • Notes
    • BERNICE EASTON PATTERSON Our heavenly Father peacefully drew Bernice Easton Patterson into His loving embrace on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 7: 00 p.m. at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Bern was soulmate and dear wife of Dr. Randolph James Patterson, who predeceased her in 1997, loving mother to Mary Sandra Dawn Patterson and Randolph James Patterson (Nancy) and proud, proud "Nanny No-No" to Maddison Ruth Easton Hurl. Only child of Walter Sylvester Dryden and Amanda Dryden (nee Zeigler), Bern was born in Galt, Ontario. After the death of her father at the tender age of two years, Amanda and Bern moved to Kitchener, Ontario, where Bern attended KW Collegiate Institute. After graduation, she studied nursing at Hamilton General with twin majors in Surgical and Emergency Medicine. It was here that she met the love of her life, a handsome young radiologist, Randolph James Patterson. Randy and Bern were married on May 13, 1950 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Kitchener. Bern and Randy moved to Ottawa where Randy began his career at the Ottawa Civic Hospital and Bern began her volunteer career with the Doctor's Wives Auxiliary's gift shop. She also volunteered her nursing skills for many years at the Ottawa Red Cross. Bern and Randy had many friends whom they took great pleasure in knowing and for whom they had a great appreciation. They loved to entertain and their parties were renowned. Bern's love for her God, her church and her family were her main focus. St. Peter's Lutheran Church was near and dear to her heart and she was an integral part of the Altar Guild for many years. Bern will be remembered as a bright shining, loving light in the hearts of those she touched. Her family will always remember her with infinite love. The family will greet friends from 2: 00 - 4: 00 and 7: 00 - 9: 00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20th at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Richmond Road), Ottawa. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 21st at 11: 00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 400 Sparks Street. Reception in the Church Hall. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery, in Carp, where she will be laid to rest beside her "dear Randy". The Patterson Family would like to sincerely thank the talented medical professionals on the fifth floor of the Ottawa Civic Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Ottawa. Condolences / Tributes / Donations Hulse, Playfair & McGarry www.hpmcgarry.ca 613-233-1143
