    • Carl A. Pollock, 74, honorary chairman of Electrohome Ltd. and chancellor of the University of Waterloo, died Wednesday night of a heart attack at his cottage in Muskoka.

Pollock joined the company in 1929 after graduating as an electrical engineer from the University of Toronto and from Magdalen College, Oxford, England.

He became president in 1951 on the death of his father, A. B. Pollock, who had founded Electrohome in 1907 with Alex. E. Welker. He retired in 1974 after 45 years with the company.

Electrohome Ltd. is the largest Canadian company In its field and Kitchener's largest native firm.

Pollock saw Electrohome grow from a small operation to a company employing 3,100 in five plants at its peak in 1976.

He was also involved in the broadcasting field and owned and operated the first licensed FM station in Canada.

As president of the Canadian Manufacturers Association, Pollock travelled more than 62,000 miles in one year as the organization's goodwill ambassador.

In 1975 he was named an officer of the Order of Canada by Gov. Gen. Jules Leger.

Pollock was one of the founding members of UW's board of governors in 1957. He has been a member of the board ever since.

In 1968 Pollock was elected chairman of the board, a position he held for the next nine years. In 1925 he was named chancellor. He was elected to a second term as chancellor last December.

He was named to the National Design Council of Canada in 1961.

Pollock was president of Central Ontario Television Ltd., which operates CKCO-TV and radio station CKKW; vice president and director of A. and C. Boehmer Ltd., a director of Burns Food Ltd., the Royal Bank of Canada, Grouse Hinds Co. of Canada Ltd. and the Dominion Life Assurance Co.

He was a governor of the Ontario Research Foundation, past president of the Electronic Industries Association of Canada and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and he was also one of the founding members of the Stratford Shakespearean Festival.
