  • Notes
    • ALLERTON, Chris - The family of Chris Allerton would like to invite you to a celebration of his life. Chris passed away from cancer on Monday, January 3, 2011 at age 63. In his own words "I have been so fortunate to have had such good people, family and friends during my life. My wife, Deb, and daughters Kristen, Kerry, and myself extend our deepest gratitude to you all. Our gratitude as well to the staff and researchers at Princess Margaret and Toronto General Hospitals. May the information gained hopefully contribute to a cure for the next patient. We gave it our best shot". Thank you as well to Dr. Mike Lawrie of Cambridge Memorial Hospital and the staff at Grand River Hospital, Freeport and Community Care Partners for your care and support. "A particular note of thanks to Wafik Shaker, the owner and pharmacist of Heritage Pharmacy who has a big heart." Such people make a difference. Chris is predeceased by his father, Rev. Arthur Allerton (January 2009) and survived by his mother, Jean Allerton, brothers Richard (Kim) and Eric (Elaine), his nieces, Caitlin, (Billy), Meghan, Paige and nephew, Owen (Nikky). Chris lived life with an acute awareness of the need for sustainability of our environment long before it was in vogue. He was the original "recycle man". His work and life were informed by his concern for those less fortunate and he endeavoured to empower them through his professional career in mental health and legal studies. His passion for the martial arts led to advanced black belts in karate and judo both of which he practiced and taught for many years. His love of the outdoors, culture and history took him many miles on his motorcycle, trips with the family in North America and abroad and his wisdom and knowledge always brought those around him to a new level. There will be a visitation at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener on Friday January 7, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 12: 45 p.m. The Funeral service for Chris will follow at 1 p.m. A reception will be held in the Funeral Home after the service. In lieu of flowers please consider contributing to the health of further generations by planting a real Canadian tree somewhere, sometime. A native tree will be donated to the University of Guelph arboretum in Chris' name. Visit www.henrywalser.com for Chris' memorial.
