    • DERWOOD (DER) A. BRUDER With heavy hearts and deepest sorrow we say "see you later" to our husband, father, grandfather, friend and most importantly our hero. Derwood Arnold Bruder died peacefully at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, with his family by his side, on July 29, 2008. Till the end, a devoted family man who always put his family first, he is survived by "the sweetest girl this side of heaven" as he called his wife of nearly 67 years Mary (nee Watt) and his two daughters, Lynn Brown (Tom) and Sue Evans (Steve) and his grandchildren, Brad Evans, Jennifer Metcalf (Mike), Jeff Evans and Stephanie Brown. Predeceased by his parents, Henry and Clara (nee Billings) and his siblings, Charlie, Vern, Lil, Doug, and Madeline. Born in Elora, September 18, 1919, Der knew he had a special mission in life which he accepted without question. Volunteering for the Second World War, he survived being torpedoed in the North Atlantic on the H.M.C.S. Nabob. He returned to a career with Bell Canada where he worked for nearly 40 years as both a craftsman and manager. He asked of no one what he wasn't prepared to do himself, and the values he instilled will continue on through generations to come. Friends are invited to share their memories of Der with his family during a service of remembrance in the chapel of the Erb & Good Funeral Home, 171 King Street South Waterloo on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 11 a.m. Interment has taken place in Elora Municipal Cemetery. Condolences for the family and donation to the Salvation Army may be arranged through the funeral home, 519-745-8445 or www.erbgood.com. In living memory of Der, a donation will be made to the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home. "We will always love you, you will never be far from us, and you will live in our hearts for ever and ever."
