  • Notes
    • MYCKAN, Dmytro "Jimmy"

Passed away peacefully, while surrounded by family, on Monday, February 26, 2018, in his 98th year. Beloved husband of Anne, for 61 years. Loving father of John Myckan (Patricia Sommers) and Joanne Zystra (Tom) and proud grandfather of Andrew and Allison (Mike Dehaan). Born in Kosiv, West Ukraine, he left his town at the age of 19, to avoid conscription by the Soviets. During the war, he was captured by the Germans and forced to work in coal mines and as a fireman, during bombing raids. He was able to escape numerous times due to the efforts of his older brother, who worked for the Ukrainian Resistance. Through determination, courage and good fortune, he survived and in 1949, immigrated to Canada, to build a new life. While working full time at Butler Metals, he built two homes with his own hands, for his family. He was a hardworking, humble man and an active and lifelong member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, in Cambridge. The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at Golden Years Nursing Home for their compassionate care. Visitation will take place at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge, on Saturday, March 3, 2018, from 11 a.m., to 12: 15 p.m. followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Funeral Home Chapel, at 12: 30 p.m. Reception to follow at 1: 30 p.m., prior to private burial at Parklawn Cemetery.
