Notes - WITZEL, Doug - Died peacefully, on Wednesday afternoon, October 29, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener at the age of 67. He is the beloved husband of Marjorie (nee Zehr) - they were married for 45 years. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, Paul and his fiancée Linda of Waterloo and Robert and his partner Krisztina of Waterloo. Doug was especially proud of his two "grandchildren" Rebecca and Sydney. He will also be fondly remembered by his sister, Carol Roussel (Don), brother, David Witzel (Edie), as well as his brother-in-law, Lester Zehr (Elva), sister-in-law, Jean Zehr and predeceased by his parents, John (Jack) Witzel and Vera (nee Gaiser); brother, Bill Witzel (Edna) and his brother-in-law, Clifford Zehr. Doug retired from Zehrs head office after 38 years of service. He spent his retirement years enjoying cottage life and his many friends at Belwood Lake. He attended Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church. Friends are invited to share their memories with Doug's family at David MacLeod Funeral Home , 617 King Street North, Waterloo, on Monday, November 3, 2008 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 1 p.m. at David MacLeod Funeral Home Chapel. A private committal service will be held. As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Grand River Cancer Centre and may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at 519-888-7700. Doug's family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Janet Maceachern at Grand River Cancer Centre, and all the Doctors and staff in the ICU at Grand River Hospital for giving Doug the best care possible in his final days.
