    • Son of Rev. Brown Killed n Action

Pte. Emerson Brown, Youngest Son of Local Pastor, makes Supreme Sacrifice

A gloom was cast over the village last week when the news was received that Emerson, the youngest son of Rev. G. F. Brown, had been killed on the battle front in France. Personally the young man was not known here, having enlisted in the West prior to the removal of his family to Elmira. Nevertheless the sincere sympathy was extended to the bereaved family by a large circle of friends and acquaintances.

Deceased was one of the first to enlist when volunteers were called for, and has been in continuous service except for a few short periods when he was temporarily disabled by slight wounds. He was 20 years of age at the time of his death and spent his three last birthdays in the trenches. He rendered his country faithful and valuable services at a time when the latter were badly needed, and no doubt participated in numerous heroic actions for which the young manhood of Canada has become world-famous.

Though it is hard to have one's loved ones wrested from the family circle, the family has the consolation that their hero died in the service of his country for a good cause.

The Evangelical conference, of which Rev. G. F. Brown is a member, and which was in session at Waterloo, at the time the intelligence was received, passed the following resolution of condolence: -

Whereas the sad intelligence was received from overseas that Emerson, the youngest son of Brother G. F. Brown, was killed in action, we desire to express our heart-felt sympathy to our dear brother and sister Brown and family in their hour of trial and sorrow, and also recognize this young man's heroic service and his supreme sacrifice made in behalf of liberty, justice and freedom.
