  • Notes
    • Eugene J. Kerber Passes - The death occurred at K-W Hospital, Kitchener, on Saturday following several weeks' illness of Eugene J. Kerber, a well-known Ayr resident. Mr. Kerber, who was 57 years of age, had been seriously ill for several weeks but was removed to hospital only a short time prior to his passing. He was born on September 3, 1906, in Wisconsin and came to Ayr from Hamilton 14 years ago to assume the position of maintenance supervisor at the Best Foods plant. He was a valued and popular employee of this firm and during his last illness his fellow workers paid him continuous visits and offered all possible assistance. Mr. Kerber had travelled widely on this continent and was a well-read man, which contributed to his faculty of being an interesting conversationalist. His genial nature led him to offer his whole-hearted co-operation and assistance to any cause or project or which he was approached. Most notable among these was the operation and maintenance of the ice-making machinery at the Ayr Community Centre. Since its installation a decade ago, Mr. Kerber had spent countless hours on its maintenance - all gratis. In fact, he worked out several innovations on the system which increased its efficiency or lowered the operating cost. He is survived by a brother, Raymond Kerber of Ocala, Fla.; and two sisters, Mrs. Edna Gauss of Ambler, Pa., and Mrs. Norma Taylor of Hartsville, Pa.

      The Funeral

Funeral service was held on Monday at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, Kitchener, conducted by Rev. Denton Massey of Waterloo. Pallbearers were all Best Foods employees: Dick Rivers, David Williams, Stan Perriman, Harvey Baetz, George White and George Coe. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery.
